Transsexuality
Arising from a dissonance between the body and the mind, transsexuality is a rare condition exhibited by approximately 3% of the population and seen in all biological human species. It has no known cause and is classified as a natural variation, similar to monosexuality or left-handedness. It is medically notable only for the distress caused by the dissonance between the physical and mental souls, which can be alleviated through the use of a variety of social, medical, and magical interventions.
Treatment
From an early age, many transsexuals express a desire to adopt the social roles, attire, and mannerisms of a sex other than the one that was observed at birth. Being permitted to do so dreamatically minimises the degree of distress experienced throughout life and, for some, no further intervention is unnecessay. For others, however, arcane and/or medical treatment is required to fully address their discomfort, and modern medicine is making these options cheaper and more widley available. The creation of synthetic hormones, for example, have allowed transsexuals to acquire the secondary characteristics of their known sex.
Prevention
It is neither possible, nor desirable, to prevent or cure transsexuality.
Cultural Reception
Transexuals who are attracted to the study of magic find that they excel at it, and many of the great sorcerers throughout history experienced sexual dissonance and attributed their greater understanding of the arcane to navigating and understanding the liminal spaces between Reality and Dream. Those who choose a more mundane life still find that magic comes easier to them than to their peers.
Religious
In many cultures throughtout the world, transesexuals are considered 'god-touched', equivalent to magen in their proximity to the divine. The priesthood or prophet-class of several major faiths such as Qā-Jāre and Kibanism, and the oracles of the Maarvoti bull cult, are largely or entirely transsexual.Academic
The study of thamuaturic physical morphology (known colloquially as 'shape shifting') has shown that, unlike theriathropic morphology, transsexuals who are able to use magical or divine intervention to acquire the primary charactistics of their known sex do not inevitably revert to their prior anatomy. This has been cited as proof that body-mind dissonance is the cause of morphological reversion, and informed the best-practice tratment of sexual dissonance.Remove these ads.
