The Binatang Tribe

"The ability to defend yourself is how you prove your worth to the gods" - Cahya Bulu

By Colin Hemme and Sarah Ramsey
The Binatang tribe, family of Bulu, is the wielder of the sword “Gigi silet” or “Razortooth”. The tribe has a focus on martial prowess and beastial powers. They live their life among the wilderness and are not keen on being kind to outsiders. Their land has been most recently in danger with the threat of colonizers trying to tame the forests.

Structure

The hierarchy of the Binatang tribe is based on a few things. They value people who have won in martial combat between two people but they also value great hunters. A mixture of these two values makes you a highly appreciated member of the tribe.

Culture

The Binatang value the ability to fight, therefore this is taught at a young age. As the people of the tribe grow up, the most dedicated of the liter take on a pilgrimage into the jungle. Through they journey they are meant to learn about themselves and how to survive. They can meet people and creatures who may assist them but in the end it is up to them to defend themselves and find their own worth.

Public Agenda

This tribe is concerned with war. They want to expand their tribes and being in the middle they tend to be involved in attacking almost every tribe.

Assets

Because of their focus around combat they are equipped with many weapons but when it comes to living they mainly require hunting and gathering because of the lack of farmland. Also being within the jungles gives great reinforcement to attacks on native soil

History

Historically, the Binatang tribes see themselves as the sentient manifestation of the great old ones from the old world before humans were created. In year 0, they believe that the gods smiled upon the species of Nusantara as great creations and they manifested the best of their hunters as humanoids to fight and hunt for the gods.

Demography and Population

Common races include Nusantarans, Shifters, Tabaxi, Leonin, Loxodon, Tortle, and Grung. There are also members of other races around from other islands. Ratios are 40% Nusantaran, 15% Tabaxi, 15% Shifter, 5% Tortle, 5% Grung, 10% Leonin, and 10% Other.

Territories

The tribe is well established on the island of Melolong but their influence weins as you go out from the center of the island. They may have at least one foothold on any neighboring island.

Military

Their military consists of mostly fighters who don't use any magic but occasionally they bring along a magic user to assist their forces. Generals are appointed through merit.

Agriculture & Industry

With little access to fertile land they have to either fight for it or forge in their land for useful items. They grow plants like cocoa and other jungle plants. They are mostly vegetarian having little access to large amounts of food.

Trade & Transport

To make life in the capital easier, they have established trade routes through the jungle to get food to more populated cities. These routes are often very safe because of the people transporting them and tend to go through shortcuts like caves and ridges. They have boats when they need to transport to other islands but they don't come around very often.

Education

The people in The Binatang tribe value a good education. While very beast like, they can often be intelligent fighters with good technique over pure strength. They often don't teach about magic but do teach about aspects of the world like the different planes of existence.

Mythology & Lore

The Binatang tribe believe that they were transformed from their lesser animal forms into their more perfect sentient forms after their species were chosen by the gods. They now believe it is their purpose to be dominant over all hunters.

Divine Origins

Their worship is centered around their beliefs and where they live.

Tenets of Faith

Their tenets are based on merit in combat. Previously mentioned was the pilgrimage but there are a few other things they do to worship. If two people challenge each other in combat, they must fight for their honor. If they run from a fight, they must atone by fighting their leader which may result in death. Some more dedicated people will count the amount of kills they have but it's not required of the faith.

Ethics

If you die in combat, you will ascend to the realm of the god that you worship. However, if you are to be a coward and die unjustly, you travel to the underworld as a tortured soul.
