Exotic Crystals
Large crystalline storage containers chemically constructed to harness the power needed to bind monsters to the will of another. These crystals store magic points. The smallest shards hold around 5 magic points while the largest holds up to 100. A caster with the right knowledge can draw some or all of the magic points from a crystal while casting a spell.
When empty, these crystals are room temperature, but they become colder as more magic points are stored in them. At their most powerful, human flesh freezes to the touch.
To access the magic points stored in the crystal, the user must become attuned to that specific crystal. There must be physical contact and the user must spend 1D6 rounds attuning to the vibrations of the crystal. On the final round, a POW roll must be made. With success, the user can draw upon the magic points within as needed. They cannot, however, put more magic points inside them for later use, as these crystals absorb magic from sources beyond humans.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Typically green, blue, purple, pink, or a combination of these colors, these iridescent crystals look like geometric shafts of colored glass and typically glow in the dark with a dim light.
Physical & Chemical Properties
The crystals are cold to the touch. For each 10 magic points, the person making physical contact must pay 1 HP per round of contact. (i.e. for a crystal with 30 magic points, the caster trying to attune to its frequency would pay 3 HP per round of attuning.) Once attuned, the crystal can still hurt the caster's bare skin, but the cold doesn't transmit through fabric or other materials.
Origin & Source
These crystals come from unknown places and have been around for centuries. It wasn't until recently that scientists realized something out there was recharging them.
Life & Expiration
The magic points within a crystal will last indefinitely. If the crystal breaks, however, the magic points will be automatically expelled, causing 1D6 damage to everything within 10 feet per 5 magic points.
