Seattle
Seattle, a city on Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest, is surrounded by water, mountains and evergreen forests, and contains thousands of acres of parkland. Washington State’s largest city, it also has the states deepest secrets. After the Seattle Fire in 1889, the city was rebuilt from brick and stone and the street level was raised an entire story off the ground. The low alleys were sealed up, creating an underground city below the roads. Beneath the dingy gray sky and beautiful greenery on the surface, the city's underbelly was alive with drug dens, speakeasies, and whorehouses.
The vagrants who wandered down below the streets were never seen again. Rumors spread that the city was plagued by an evil force and when the influenza epidemic ran rampant through the streets in 1919, the city fell into chaos and the darkness down below the road thrived.
