Religion and Worship in Nyx Divina
While religion and worship varies from person-to-person, there exists a general consensus concerning deities within the realm.
Religious Foundation of Nyx Divina
The Gods of Nyx Divina are playing dragonchess, and Nyx Divina is their playground. The Gods usually have no regard for the small lives of those who exist in this world, for they are merely pawns in the grand scheme of their plots. As a result, it is not uncommon to see people have contempt for the various deities, or blatantly disregard them entirely.
Spellcasting using Divine energies is channeled through faith, not Gods. While clerics and paladins may worship or devote themselves to a deity's cause, it is not the deity themself that grants power; It is the specific energies of the fragmented Ultima domain that these sacred tap into.
The Gods do not answer prayers....usually. There exists only one verified claim that a prayer has been answered by a God. The RuneKeeper's existence is founded on an answered prayer, and it is a response from all the deities of the realm. After seeing the insurmountable damage that Nyx Divina endured at the hands of Deities (see the Shadow Wars), it is theorized that the Deities agreed to bestow the RuneKeeper as a blessing of protection to prevent the actions of Gods from causing more apocalyptic damage.
The RuneKeeper is an ascended status that borders godhood. It is not uncommon to find those who solely worship the RuneKeeper as a God. While the RuneKeeper may not be as powerful as the Gods themselves, it is the only being on earth that can counter their influence.
World Origin
In the beginning, there was only the
Ultima. An omniscient, all-encompassing force floating in the ether, the Ultima was everything and nothing. Despite having personable qualities, the Ultima Domain is neither God nor Space, but rather a conscious, cosmic energy.
For reasons unknown to the beings in the domain. Ultima grew fragmented, fractured even, and spawned layers upon layers of existences, closely woven together like threads of a tapestry or geological strata. Nyx Divina is merely the first of these layers.
The first two Deities to spawn from the Fragment were
Knox and
Divinara . The Minor Gods spawned later during the Fragment, and therefore are somewhat younger in comparison.
Dichotomous in nature, Knox and Divinara represent two uncompromising sides of existence. Not much is known of their relationship, but it is theorized that they were once lovers, and in their union, created the world of Nyx Divina (hence its name.)
The table below is the main pantheon for the world of Nyx Divina.
