Beulah Garland finagled a ticket aboard a private charter with Lochlan White, a Corran citizen that seemed familiar to several of the members of
The Ladies' Hiking Club for some reason.
Cherry Merrybottom and
Vega Spritzer took a ride on a dilapidated whaling boat with "Gus" instead, after
Peaseblossom magically charmed him into considering the charter.
Cherry exchanged recipes with town cook before hopping aboard. Fanny and Beulah unfortunately were no match for the bizarrely incisive White, who managed to suss out their scheme less than a third of the way to the Zaratan -- though by then it was too late to deny them passage. At most, he resolved that he could raise the swindle with the authorities. The Corran guards in Rightfin, however, merely laughed and welcomed the young man to the Wandering City, implying this was the sort of con he should expect and steel himself for in his new milieu. He swore he would never forget Fanny's face and stalked off.
