Dithering Dice

Eldritch artifacts with whimsical effects, Dithering Dice are created by infusing undead bones with pure chaotic energy.   Any intelligent creature that passes within 15' of a Dithering Die must take a Wisdom DC 14 saving throw. On a failure, the creature is compelled to stop, roll it, and check the outcome. This process consumes an action.   Dithering Dice have multiple dies in each die face. Accordingly, one must roll 1d4, 1d6 and 1d8 when rolling a Dithering Dice. In the event that all three dice turn up the same number (e.g., 3, 3, 3), the Dithering Die glows and begins to chant. It releases a cloud of pure pent-up chaotic force and the creature must either vent the concentrated chaos by making a Chaos Roll on its next turn or alternatively suffer 3d8 psychic damage as it forces its own way out.   A Chaos Roll consists of 1d8 being applied to an attack, ability check or saving throw. Odd numbers are subtracted from the d20 roll, even numbers are added. For example, Peaseblossom declares that her attack roll against the Arachnomancer will be her Chaos Roll. She rolls 1d8 and the result is a 4. Because that number is even, it is added to her attack roll. She attacks, rolling 14 on 1d20 for a total attack roll of 18.   Once a creature has thrown a Dithering Die, it automatically saves against any subsequent encounter with Dithering Dice until its next long rest.
