A Letter of Warning

The letter was the fourth of it's kind, and arrived at the worst possible time. The Lightbringer Spire was in the midst of locking down from a prisoner break when the letter was brought to the hea Beacon. She had personally received the prior three matching letters, an recognized it immediately. The plain square envelope was sealed with a simple gold wax seal, centered by a black sun. All mundane enough, but the single glossy black feather held beneath the wax was the alarming part.

The feather was not from a living bird of any kind. This feather was carefully crafted from fine silk threads and a stony core. Oabos had no avain creatures with similar black featers anywhere near this size. That was the alarming part of these letters. Legends of the old world were common enough, but tales of the dark omen birds were a carefully guarded secret of the Order of the Discerning Gaze. There should not be anyone beyond the highest level of each spire with any knowledge of these creatures. Yet here was a perfectly sized and colored feather, holding shut a letter of warning to the Lightbringer Spire.

A warning that they were on the wrong side. That a reckoning was coming.
