Daylight Fountain
Outside of Chronwhorl life gets harder for the human constitution, and it is easy to fall into complacency and rely of the abilities of Mythics and Myth Touched. In an effort to protect the souls of faithful Children of Radiance, the Discerning Gaze developed Daylight Fountains as a source of Radiance in outlying villages. These fountains generate the same golden light as The Radiance over Chronwhorl instead of water and offer a similar bolstering to human souls.
The larger cell is what is built into the fountain pillars. Once placed, a cap is taken off the top, where the prismem is cut to release a beam of Radiance. This bean releases Radiance at the same rate that it is built up, so the fountain can run continuously once installed. The beam is then directed into a crystal to diffuse and flood the pillar of prismem laced marble. The result is a brilliantly glowing pillar, acting as a much smaller Radiance disk.
An overcharged fountain doesn't just glow. Instead it gives off moving ribbons of light that wrap around the pillar and extend our into the surrounding area. A glow also starts in the ground at the base of the pillar and sends out pulsing waves of light in all directions. The light pulse distance is proportional to how overcharged the fountain is. The largest known light pulse was recorded in a village near Chronwhorl right after the calamity of conversion, and reached a full days ride out of the town center.
Creation
Daylight Fountains are pillars of marble and Prismem that house a Radiance generator in the center of their base. In the years after prismem's discovery, the Academia Spire dedicated research teams to finding uses for the strange crystal material. They found that much like the elements that could be bounced around and amplified, the same could be done with the light of Radiance if the crystal is cut right. The trapped Radiance can be built up to an incredible degree, and then transferred to a larger prismem shell. The second shell still builds power, but at a slower rate. The larger cell is what is built into the fountain pillars. Overcharging
While the pillars are designed to be a source of Radiance where there is none, they can become overcharged if their area is flooded with another source of Radiance. The most common way this is seen is when the Radiance disk over Chronwhorl expands. If the expanded light zone overlaps the location of a Daylight Fountain, the fountain will start to collect Radiance and overcharge. An overcharged fountain doesn't just glow.
