Last Landing

Last Landing is a lone outpost on the far side of an empty tundra. The outpost sits at the only entrance to the single traversable pass into the icy mountains beyond. The outpost is styled much like a trading post, but in truth is the home to a single hermit. Rumors among travelers is that the hermit is as old as the outpost itself.

The outpost itself is surrounded by a low wall, designed mostly to hold back any drifts of snow that would otherwise blow into the small square of the outpost. The square is not much to speak of. Merely a space of packed down snow and frozen dirt around a small well, which manages to be deep enough to provide water with a touch of warmth left if a traveler can pull it up fast enough. Move too slow, and that water will freeze before it can be brought into shelter.

Surrounding the square are several small buildings, built to face inward toward the well rather than being built lightward. There is a stable of sorts, set up as a larger shelter which dips into the ground and has heating vents dug down in several places along the walls. Toward the path into the mountain is a home as small as the few guest buildings around it. This building has clearly been more often kept up, with a more worm path to the well. Unlike the guest buildings, the hermit's home has only its entrance at the surface level, and cuts down deep into the mountain rock for a much warmer home below. The top floor is well enough appointed that few choose to go sniffing around and discover his true home.
