Aquatic Elves

Aquatic Elves, also called Sea Elves, and Alu'Tel'Quessir in their own tongue are water-breathing cousins to the land-dwelling Elves. It is believed that the first Sea Elves descended from Moon Elves who settled on the coast of Galaylian. There may be several subgroups of Aquatic Elves though they are all considered the same subrace. Sea Elves have skin ranging from all colors between purple, blue, and green, and some are reported to have silver or white skin. Their skin is extremely thick and full of blubber to protect them from the cold depths of the ocean, and their limbs developed webbing for speed in the water. Their eyes are blue, green, turquoise, black, or silver, and their hair is stringy black or emerald green.   Aquatic Elves are isolationist by nature and while there are reports of them saving the occasional drowning sailor, it is more likely they will stand by and observe. The presence of gills gives them an amphibious nature, however, the amount of time they can stay on land seems to vary from hours, days, and even weeks. Some scholars have claimed Aquatic Elves are the least magical of the Elven race.

Aquaticc Elf Traits

Aquatic Elves are a subrace of elves, for the sake of clarity the following racial stats are Elven after choosing the Aquatic Elf subrace. Your Aquatic Elf character has the following racial traits.
Ability Score Increase: Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Constitution score increases by 1.   Age: Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old. Aquatic lean toward the low end of the scale.   Alignment: Elves love freedom, variety, and self-expression, so they lean strongly toward the gentler aspects of chaos. They value and protect others’ freedom as well as their own, and they are more often good than not. Aquatic Elves tend towards neutral.   Size: Elves range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.   Speed: Your base walking speed is 30ft. You have a swimming speed of 30ft.   Darkvision: Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray. Keen Senses: You have proficiency in the Perception skill.   Sea Elf Training: You have proficiency with the spear, trident, light crossbow, and net.   Child of the Sea: You can breathe air and water.   Friend of the Sea: Using gestures and sounds, you can communicate simple ideas with any beast that has an innate swimming speed.   Trance: Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.   Languages: You can speak, read, and write Common and Elvish and one extra language. Sea Elves also have their own language called Aquan spoken among the various aquatic races.

Aquatic Elves and Other Races

Aquatic elves are caution folk. Although there are many races friendly to the aquatic elves such as the merfolk and the tritons, there are just as many menaces in the deeps. As a result, aquatic elves remain in their cities and interact with others only when forced to. This caution extends to surface communities, but is often tempered with curiosity. Aquatic elves who live close to shore often spend long hours spying on their air-breathing neighbors. They make little distinction between the various land-dwelling subraces of elves.
One race in particular should be mentioned in the context of the aquatic elves: the sahuagin. Aquatic elves possess a fierce, blinding hatred for the sea devils and often wage senseless wars against them. The one sure way to overcome an aquatic elf's natural shyness and wariness is to offer him then chance to attack and possibly kill some of his race's hated enemies.

Major language groups and dialects

Aquatic Elves seemed to have developed their own language that sounds similar to the language of dolphins with squeals and clicks dispersed throughout. They can speak surface languages with difficulty.
