Mihlaj

The desert was dry and the sun was hot. Only the sand showed signs of life, blowing and swirling across the dunes in a chaotic pattern of endless irreverence. Foliage was lacking and creatures refused to endure the harsh elements that offered no respite or rest. And so it was, until Tief blessed the region with a refreshing spring that bubbled forth from the miles of sand as a reflective beacon for life. Green sprung from the ground in earnest and began to shade the desert in its lush blanket. Creatures, finally able to cross the Hollows without facing certain death, bathed in the waters and shared in the gift bestowed upon them by the Compassionate Blossom. And, of course, humans erected a settlement around the waters and the Tenders were formed to give thanks to Sief and provide guidance to the travelers seeking refuge in Mihlaj. The settlement is now a landmark and mecca of trade and the exchange of ideas.

Demographics

Most of the people living in Mihlaj are merchants. As a necessary oasis between other cities in the region and Sa'darhut, a vast majority of merchants will conduct business here before making the harrowing journey across the Hollows to the coast.

Infrastructure

The most significant piece of infrastructure is the massive cistern buried along the northern cliff-face. A complex and unmapped network of tunnels collect water at various locations surrounding Mihlaj, channeling the water into the cistern for use. Built long before the Swallowing, the craftsmanship is exceptional - mages assisted in the construction by imbuing the bricks and materials with water-resistant properties and greater structural strength.

Geography

The most efficient method of travel to Mihlaj is to follow the crowdsourced flags planted throughout the region. Another option would be to ascend the canyon walls and travel along the edge, entering the city from the north, although this is not a practical method for merchants and caravans.
