Dwarf

Like the elves, the dwarves have been around just as long to witness the birth of the world. Though they do not rival dragons in power and strength, their stubbornness and durability has lead them this far. Though short in nature, dwarves are highly respected. The more respect one gets is based on their age and craftsmanship alone. During the Great Divide, the dwarves forged weapons to fight against the dragons, thus, making them experts in craftsman skills. Many venture deep into mountainous territories to apprentice under their leadership. In modern society however, very few mingle throughout, mainly keeping within the mountains with Giants and Orcs. Those that do venture out tend to stay near the mainland and work at weapon shops and armory. There is a bitter rivalry between the dragonborn and the dwarves. They favor Aspain and it's colder climate as well as the mountains surrounding each of the territories.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Dwarf names are granted by a clan elder within its first week of life. It is common for names to be reused again and again for each generation. If one brings shame to their name and/or clan they are stripped of their name and banned. If other clans learn of the dwarf's banishment they too are banned from dwarven society.

Beauty Ideals

Dwarves live a rugged lifestyle, thus, grimy fingernails, unkemptness, and overall ragged appearance in both genders is the perfect ideal of a dwarf. The more you look like you work hard the better.

Gender Ideals

Dwarves are very rigid and traditional in their values. Usually, if a dwarf does need to venture outside mountain regions, it is usually the male dwarf that does so. The male dwarf is expected to work hard and to venture. They are known to run shops and do business Female dwarves do the hard work and heavy lifting. They are the core miners and jewelry makers.

Courtship Ideals

It is usually a female dwarf that asks to court the male dwarf. She would mine for a jewel that she would then gift to her suitor. If he likes it, they begin courting for 5 years minimum. Then they are courted and bonded for life if they choose so.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Dwarvish and common. Some of the older dwarves and clans know Draconic.

Historical Figures

  • Hormar the Greedy: Known for his obvious greed, he not only helped in making a large portion of weapons and armor for the war of the Great Divide, he also lead a troop of dwarves into battle as well, causing a major catalyst for the mortals against the dragons.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Dwarves tend to date within their own species but it is not rare for them to date a halfling, or another human. But prefer someone who can live as long as them. They avoid dragonborn when they can and act as civil as possible in public. Elves are seen as a mutual kinship in that they remember the history of Lunaecia, though the dwarves find elves too uptight and boring. Other races, in relation to dwarves are very neutral.
