Gnome

Gnomes are fun loving and spiritual race that make their home mainly in Eskye. They founded multiple of the larger towns surrounding the area and inhabit them. They live within close knit communities but are very open to other races. Gnomes are usually the ones who, like the elves, start and the fore front leaders of running festivals and parties. Though they can live a sedentary lifestyle, it is not uncommon for many gnomes to join the life of travel for the sake of adventure. Since they live long lives, they too know of the Great Divide, but not as much as the dwarves and elves. They tend to avoid the subject as they favor fun loving pranks and activities to serious history things. Many of their parties center around the value of life. During the Great Divide, the gnomes determined to stay neutral to all the fighting as it goes against their beliefs to the value of life. War is not there strong suit.    Although they enjoy partying and fun, they are dedicated and hardworking in their craft. They are known engineers, tinkerers, alchemists, and inventors. The favor craftsmanship and technology over the study of magic.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Gnomes love names, and most have half a dozen or so. A gnome’s mother, father, clan elder, aunts, and uncles each give the gnome a name, and various nicknames from just about everyone else might or might not stick over time. Gnome names are typically variants on the names of ancestors or distant relatives, though some are purely new inventions. When dealing with humans and others who are “stuffy” about names, a gnome learns to use no more than three names: a personal name, a clan name, and a nickname, choosing the one in each category that’s the most fun to say.

Beauty Ideals

Gnomes are a wily bunch and the notion of beauty does not appeal to them. Only the connection and enjoyment they see within another.

Courtship Ideals

A gnome wishing to court another gnome must ask that gnome to a dance competition. If the courter wins they shall court for the allotted time (depends on the couple). If the courtee wins then the courter is rejected. But it is seen as more attractive if the courter can laugh off the rejection and continue with life.

Relationship Ideals

Gnomes are non monogamous and plenty have multiple partners within their entire lifetime, resulting in huge families and even bigger festivals. They are also more lax in divorces. They are also free to marry outside of their race but most do not as only a gnome can keep up with another gnome. Monogamy is an unspoken taboo.
