The Forest

The Forest, an ancient glade of long-forgotten technology. Tree's and plants made from cybernetic functions fused perfectly with biological functions. The trees produce fruit akin to a battery, which is useful for long journeys. It is however a dangerous place, and not one a person such as yourself should enter unless they had no other options.

Aye, I know The Forest. A place of living machines, biological solar panels, and deadly creatures. I've been there once in my 79 years of existence, and I will never go back. My daughter went in there, and perished a long time ago. I went in there for vengeance, only to almost die myself to some form of carnivorous plant. Never again, I told myself back then. And I will warn you now to avoid that place at all costs.

Geography

A vast, dense forest filled with trees and plants that are a perfect blend of biology and technology. It's a relatively flat plain, but the plants sometimes create hills and such that you must traverse. There's a river that runs through it, splitting it almost perfectly in half. It is in the middle of two mountain ranges, and the entrance is also the only safe exit. It is beautiful in an eerie way, as it looks serene in a "serene in death" way.

Fauna & Flora

Cybernetic Trees

Trees that were once just saplings that were perfectly blended with technology. Most of them are fruit bearing, with the fruits acting similar to batteries that never expire. They will eventually grow into more trees, but the seeding process takes time as the seed itself must be broken by an outside force first.

Berry Bushes

Simple berry bushes. While small parts of them are cybernetic, their main function is just producing normal berries at an impressive rate. These are dotted all over The Forest and feed the rabbits and other creatures that consume them.

Vines

The vines in this location are easily climbable, however some species of them are merely traps. They drape over the trees and any steep cliffs of the area, and most will allow you to traverse. The ones that act as traps are not obvious at first, however they will have tiny red flowers on them upon closer inspection. If you step or climb on one, it will wrap around you similar to a constrictor snake and kill you.

Mutated Fox

A fox that has mutated to be able to consume the fruits and berries of the trees within The Forest without suffering ill effects. It has sharper, harder teeth, better eyesight, larger paws, and is stealthier than a fox we would know. They are incredibly vicious, as there is little food in the area and anything they perceive as food they will attempt to kill and eat.

Mutated Rabbit

A rabbit that has mutated to be smaller, stealthier, and able to digest the berries and flowers of The Forest. They take on a spotted fur color with green and gray patches to blend in with the surrounding areas, and are faster than normal rabbits to be able to escape things like the Mutated Fox.

Cybernetic Bear

A bear that was changed long ago through some cataclysmic event. Scientists ages past had combined technology with a bear in an attempt to tame them and be able to control them. This worked ten thousand years ago, but ten thousand years of breeding and evolution has resulted in a feral beast. The beast needs electricity to function, so it eats the fruits of the Cybernetic Trees in the area. It also, however, needs flesh, so it will eat any foxes and rabbits it comes across. It is a hulking monstrosity with powerful muscles and cybernetic components sticking out in places. It has far better eyesight and is stronger than a bear we would know. Its claws can easily gouge steal and stone. The bear also has an incredibly fast electrical recharge rate, to fend of the Electric Nox.

Electric Nox

Known to people around The Forest as "The Night Terror", this is a vampire-like creature, however, instead of sucking blood it sucks electricity from creatures. It drains creatures dry, then flies off looking for another victim. If the victim recharges faster than the Electric Nox can suck, it will leave whenever it fills itself with electricity. People theorize that the Electric Nox was created when some form of flying mammal made contact with a strain of Silver and evolved from there.

Carnivorous Plant

This plant is a venus fly trap combined with cybernetics to create a truly deadly killing machine. Its "mouth" is approximately 10 feet wide, and its "stomach" is filled with hydroflouric acid. It consumes anything it comes across as the nutrients it needs are not within the soil, however, other creatures do have it. It takes roughly one week to digest a meal, and in that time it remains dormant and hidden.

Natural Resources

Water

The river flowing through this place flows from the tips of the mountains surrounding The Forest, and as a result the water is exceptionally clean. A rare commodity.

Electricity

The trees in this area produce fruit often, and lots at a time. The electricity in these fruits can be harvested and used by the denizens of the surrounding area.

Berries

The berries within the forest are a delicacy to the locals, and you can sometimes see soups and beverages made from them.

A neat article, but I wonder *why* the forest is so deadly? Is it sapient? Sentient? Is it evil? Or is it simply a high deadliness due to the fauna and flora itself? If it's so deadly, how do creatures survive in the forest? What do the plants and creatures live off of if they need to kill so much (meaning it's deadly).   Also, hydroflouric acid would likely take hours to dissolve a body, not a week.     My main concern with most of your articles is that you tend to tease a lot and hint at some dark terror (for instance "No one knows how this creature came to be, only that it did.") It gets tiring to read this in the long run. Either don't write this at all, or have an explanation somewhere. Right now you're just frustrating the reader. Especially since in this case it's very easy to just assume that the creature is a bat fused with nanites. No big secret there.
