The Wanderers

The Wanderers

Description

The Wanderers are a group of hardened mercenaries who, in the wake of the Echoes of Silence, have taken on a new purpose as vigilantes and protectors. Once known for their prowess on the battlefield, they were mercenaries for hire, often aligning themselves with causes they deemed just. They were never the type to fight for gold alone; their loyalty was earned by those who stood for what was right in the world. Now, they have become a clandestine force opposing the Veilbound Council, driven by a desire to right the wrongs inflicted upon the world.

Origins Before the Cataclysm

Before the world was shattered by the Echoes of Silence, the Wanderers were a loose band of warriors, rangers, and spellcasters who made their living through battle. They were not bound by any single nation or ruler but instead moved from conflict to conflict, choosing sides based on their moral compass. The Wanderers were known to follow the signs of the Wanderer constellation—a celestial formation believed to guide those who sought justice. This constellation became their emblem, symbolizing their belief in fighting for the greater good, no matter the cost.

Transformation After the Cataclysm

The Cataclysm changed everything. When the world was thrown into chaos and memory itself was fractured, the Wanderers found themselves stripped of purpose. Many of their ranks were lost, either to the chaos or to the madness that followed. But in this dark time, they found a new mission. They uncovered the truth about the Veilbound Council—a shadowy organization responsible for manipulating minds and erasing memories using the Echo Herb. It was this revelation that united the surviving Wanderers into a focused resistance group.

The Splintered Connection

The Wanderers are acutely aware of the Splintered's presence and its devastating effects on the land. They view the Splintered as a symbol of the world’s decay, a manifestation of the horrors that were unleashed after the Cataclysm. They have tried to confront the Splintered on several occasions, but even they, with all their skill, have been unable to stop its relentless consumption of life. However, they see the battle against the Splintered as intertwined with their struggle against the Veilbound Council—two sides of the same coin, both threatening to consume what remains of the world.

Thalin’s Vision

Among the Wanderers, Thalin was one of the most respected members. However, his fate took a dark turn when he was captured and tortured by agents of the Veilbound Council. They sought to break his mind, but in doing so, they inadvertently gave him a glimpse into their true nature. Before Thalin’s mind fractured completely, he managed to relay a cryptic message to a fellow Wanderer—revealing the existence of a clandestine organization that sought to control the world by erasing the memories of those who knew too much. This final stroke of sanity led the Wanderers to declare war on the Veilbound Council.

Purpose and Mission

Now, the Wanderers are no longer just mercenaries; they are rebels, fighting to dismantle the Veilbound Council and restore what has been lost. They destroy any Echo Herb they come across, seeking to weaken the Council’s grip on the minds of the people. They know they are outnumbered and outmatched, but they continue their fight, guided by the Wanderer constellation, which they believe still watches over them. The Wanderers see themselves as the last bastion of hope in a world teetering on the edge of oblivion, willing to make any sacrifice to protect the future from the darkness that seeks to consume it.
