Crucible of Divinity
In the center of the world, surrounded by the six kingdoms, a forsaken land looms like a nightmare in the minds of all good people.
The Crucible of Divinity, a desolate island shrouded in lawlessness and despair, serves as a terrifying threat and warning to those who would do harm to the other kingdoms. Used as both prison and death sentence, the island is the final destination for the worst criminals, for whom death is deemed to be too kind and merciful.
The island bears the scars of the ancient conflict, the War of Creation, that great celestial schism which left the Children of Creation either dead, as in the case of The Six, or imprisoned, like Sibon and Dalen. It is now a blasted landscape where wild magic pockets sprout amidst barren wastelands. The harsh terrain offers no sanctuary or hope, only torment and hardship for those unfortunate enough to find themselves there. It is a realm where the normal rules of society no longer apply, and even the normal rules of life and death seem to ignore this forsworn place.
The connections to both the River Gleaming and River Gloaming were shattered in the cataclysm caused by the rift of the Old Gods' war. This has created strange pockets of magic while also preventing the souls of those slain on the island from finding their way into any kind of afterlife. The spirits of sapients killed on the island are torn asunder as their essence attempts to pass into the River through the broken connections to the Gloaming.
Any who die here are cursed to never reach their afterlife and are forced to exist in eternal agony as fragments of spirit, rendering resurrection magic and similar powers ineffective.
Geography
The island is a strange patchwork of terrain, with each of The Six having left their unique mark on the place. Deserts, forests, and inland seas exist side-by-side, sometimes even overlapping. The wild magic pockets that appear and vanish across the plain leave unpredictable areas of untamed energy and chaos.
Connecting these diverse biomes, barren plains of reddish rock bear the bloodstains of the ancient battle held there. The coasts of the island are composed of sheer cliffs of this same red rock that drop impossibly into the roiling sea.
Ecosystem
The Crucible of Divinity harbours an array of grotesque and fearsome creatures that have adapted to the desolate and chaotic environment. Many of these beings are remnants of the ancient war between the gods, twisted and corrupted by the residual magic that permeates the island.
The flora of the island is likewise diverse, but bears the monstrous aspects imbued by the wild magic and bloody history of the battleground.
Those sapient species who have managed to survive hold fragile communities and camps, though these are often destroyed by enemies or by the wild magic storms that roam the island.
Climate
The weather and seasons of the island are as chaotic as the rest of the Crucible's aspects. One season seems to lead randomly into another, sometimes as rapidly as having multiple seasons go by in a single day.
Heavy winds, dust storms, rain, and hail hammer the island, further contributing to the hostility of the blasted land. Non-sapient animals who somehow find themselves on the island often cannot adapt to the turbulent nature, and so survive only with great luck.
