Sibonic Lycanthropy
Sibonic Lycanthropy, alternatively called Blackblood Lycanthropy, is a mystical disease caused by a unique strain of Sibonic Bacteria, leading to lycanthropic transformations.
Sibonic Lycanthropy offers some protection against mundane weapons, granting those affected an inherent resilience to conventional harm.
Additionally, the condition enhances their natural weapons, bestowing them with increased strength, speed, and potency during their transformed states.
Transmission & Vectors
Sibonic lycanthropy is a product of advanced stages of Sibonic Toxicosis, and is therefore spread primarily through blood and injury. It is caused a particular strain of the Sibonic bacteria which is responsible for the mutation which provides the ability to shift at will.
The disease is infectious at the point of infection, for as long as the host survives, or until overall Sibonic Corruption is reduced.
Causes
High concentrations of a particular strain of Sibonic Bacteria can result in a mutation which causes the sufferer to transform into a Sibonic beast. Over time, the ability to control the transformation can be learned, leading to Sibonic Lycanthropy.
Symptoms
As the disease progresses, distinct symptoms manifest, such as visible black coloration in surface veins, indicating the presence of Sibonic Toxicosis.
Irritability and reduced inhibitions become apparent as the infection affects the individual's mental state, leading to erratic behavior.
Additionally, muscle pains that cannot be soothed begin to spread from the infection site.
Treatment
A potential cure for the disease involves a potion crafted from the rare heartwort herb, capable of treating the disease but not eliminating Sibonic Corruption.
Alternatively, the reduction of overall Sibonic Corruption can also serve as a method of treatment, achieved through the usual means.
Prognosis
If treatment is applied promptly, the disease can be managed and can be prevented from reaching the transformative state.
Even if the corruption has taken hold, early treatment can allow the afflicted to maintain more control during transformations, allowing them to lead relatively stable lives.
Individuals who do not receive proper treatments will experience frequent and uncontrollable transformations when faced with danger or strong emotions. This leads to a loss of personal identity and a potential to harm others during their bestial states.
Completely untreated and advanced cases of Sibonic Lycanthropy leaves the afflicted in a purely animalistic and primal form. These individuals will not recover from the disease and will become isolated or hunted due to the danger they present.
Affected Groups
Sibonic Lycanthropy can only affect sapient species. Alhough similar physiological transformations can be seen in non-sapient species, the absence of control and limited mental effects leave these cases classified as typical Sibonic Corruption.
Hosts & Carriers
Sibonic Lycanthropes carry the particular strain of Sibonic Bacteria that triggers this condition, but it is possible for that same strain to be present in any source of Sibonic Corruption.
