History
The continent of Odeous is popularly known as Divine Country. The nickname was coined during its historical crusades started by Steadfast Hold which decimated the land hundreds of years ago. The name stuck through time. At first as a sign of pride and duty by those involved in the wars, then others only in fear of what may happen if they chose to ignore the crusaders claim.
The crusades ended in a peace treaty forced the people out of the disputed land and citadel that was under contention during the wars. This land was located in the center of the continent. This dislocation split the population into 3 major cities: Steadfast Hold, Harvestall, and Thornmere (this occurrence is referred to as The Fracture). Each wanting to uphold their own values and conduct their people how they wish without any friction from opposing parties. More passionately by Steadfast Hold, being the one that started the wars. The factions that established Steadfast Hold (Almstead's Might, AKA: The Crown, The Iron Boar) and Thornmere (The Oaken Accord, AKA: The Oak, The Thorns) existed before the Crusades but began to disappear after the Fracture, their primary purpose being to address the conflicts of the Crusades. Harvestall was originally a humble farm town with pure morals, but when it was flooded with people escaping the factions, it grew to become the city it is now. A hub for sinful acts and a symbol of freedom.
People fled from one city to the other, leaving their small towns for big cities, but some remained in their own outlying towns to maintain some sense of independence. Some territories wanted no part of the politics whatsoever (Dohr Bilrogh and the Tsandsevo Isles) and remained neutral in their land. The Crusade's bloodshed and massive pilgrimages left the country divided, starting a long multi-generational road to healing. Tens of thousands of people were dislocated into big cities by force or voluntarily. Some took to moving towns instead, but the uncertainty of violence beginning again remained on everyone's mind.
Through the immediate years following, the cities did not interact and used spies regularly to track each other. Many families of refugees had found new homes which created an interesting mash-up of characters throughout the cities. Some though have remained lost and in poverty, only having changed locations to face the same hardships they had in their former lives during the wars. The country is still healing, but the cities have a longstanding peace treaty which has improved the relationship between them throughout time.
Now, the name "Divine Country" still remains. Even for those who do not worship any high being or even know about the crusades from lack of their ancestral involvement. It lost most of its religious- violent connotation and remains a historical title used by the region, some resent the nickname calling it by its proper name, Odeous.
