Applied Majai, AKA Magic

Magic, as stated, is channeled Majai. Majai in and of itself is not necessarily powerful in raw form; when Majai is harnessed for tasks, however, its true power revealed. A spell is essentially a self-contained set of instructions to a concentration of Majai in order to create and modify natural phenomena. The spell’s incantation and/or components inherently contain the necessary directions in the former and materials in the latter. A fireball spell, for example, tells Majai to create intense heat and ignite the spell components, form into a sphere, and fly towards a preordained target. Sorcerers, however, due to their massive amounts of Majai within themselves, can create magic without incantations. They possess a natural ability to channel and mentally curb Majai, and as such can produce the effects of spells without the assistance of incantations or components. Only those with an in-depth knowledge of Majai channeling and instruction, however, can use magic in more advanced/complicated ways. It should be noted that all instructions given to Majai can only be given in a certain languages. The Eladrin were the first to harness the power of Majai, and it is their native tongues that give form to magic. Celestial, Abyssal, and Sylvan are viable for magic; this is due to origins of the first godly creatures, the Eladrin, carving their own existence into the presence of Majai. However, Sylvan is an oddity amongst the three languages. While the other two are known as the languages of the gods and devils, Sylvan is the original language of the Eladrin. Not knowing the lost history of the world, the mortal races interpret Sylvan as an ancient form of Elvish, for it comes the closest to structure and pronunciation. Usually translated into different texts, the spells are universally recitable through most written languages, and does not follow one certain writing system. Even those with a rough understanding of Majai can apply it to their own ends, albeit with limits. One example of applied Majai (NOT MAGIC) are monks, who use their natural Majai to bolster their own strength, speed, and resilience; Majai used in this way is known to monks as qi, chi, or ki. Blood Oaths are another example of applied Majai; by speaking the terms of an oath and sealing it with blood (in any language), the Majai of both parties partially materializes and, as per the terms of the oath, holds them both to the terms of the agreement. Blood Rituals are very similar, but requires sacrifice of much larger volumes; the purpose of a Blood Ritual is to create the effect of a spell, though in a much less efficient way. Both are primitive forms of magic, but work in mostly the same way.
