Matteo has been the leader of the Skysworn for going on 30 years, he gained his position when he was 29, and has held it dutifully for the entire time. Lately, he has been looking to hand the reigns down, pun intended, to a new crop of riders. But, that's not until he's damn good and ready for it - which he keeps telling the up-and-coming riders.
He grew up in Rivershire and when he turned 15 was sent to the Dragon Valley Dragon Roost to train and become a Dragon Rider.
Prior to being sent, Matteo has been showing signs of strong psychic abilities - these ranged from Pyrokinesis (later showing he could shape the flames) to even being able to move objects with just his mind. No, he isn't a proximi. He never awakened.
What shocked most was that there was a Silver dragon in a clutch the same year; and that he had just become a squire when Athucrin bonded to him within moments of meeting him. Both had only been part of the World for a year (be it skysworn or hatched).
From that day he excelled in everything he did. Charting a new direction for the skysworn. One that still holds true to this day.

Matteo holds himself with a sense of pride and a hint of mischievousness. He's gotten to the age where he's old enough to know better, but still not care.
He is a lot of lean muscle from years of hard labor at the hands of the skysworn. His hands are calloused, and his skin is a deep color that belies all the years in the sun.

Facial Features
Eyes: Deep blue, almost black. Hair: Silver/Grey
His eyes are set nicely upon his face, he has a well groomed beard and mustache that have become the norm for him. His eyes often dance with laughter or seem to look off into a far off space as if remembering a time long ago.

Apparel & Accessories
Matteo is almost always seen in a suit of some sort of another when he's not astride his dragon. When he is, he will opt for more practical choices of clothing - including but not limited to armor.
