Contested Rolls
There are two types of Contested Rolls. An Opposed Roll and a Differential Roll. Opposed Rolls pit two skills against each other and are win or lose. Differential Rolls pit two skills against each other but also calculate the difference in levels of success. Differential Rolls are primarily used in combat.
Opposed Roll Resolution
- Protagonist rolls appropriate skill.
- Antagonist rolls appropriate skill.
- Compare levels of success (i.e. Critical Success, Success, Failure, or Fumble).
- Whoever was the most Successful wins the Opposed Roll.
- If both participants roll the same level of success (i.e. both roll a Success, or both roll a Critical Success) then the winner is the one who rolled the highest within that success range. (e.g. One participant rolls a 65, a success for them. The other rolls a 49, a success for them. The first participant 'wins'.)
- If both sides fail (or fumble), re-roll the contest or the GM may provide some explanation for how both failed.
Differential Roll Resolution
- Protagonist rolls appropriate skill.
- Antagonist rolls appropriate skill.
- Compare levels of success on Differential Roll Results table.
- There is no outright 'winner' but the person with the higher level of success gains an advantage equal to the difference in success levels.
- Refer to the Differential Roll Results Table to determine Success Levels.
