The Colonization of Ancora

For long just an unknown land on the horizon. Part of The Wild, split from The Known World by a treacherous sea.
In The Mainland a group of Valkyries made it known that the time had come to traverse the inhospitable sea and claim the lands for The Light and Enlightenment.
Many people - Humans especially - joined the Valkyries for the journey across the sea, and were most of the ships arrived, many settled and named their settlement Adventus. Two ships had been blown out of course, but still managed to arrive to the continent. They settled the town Fortuna Maris.

In Adventus the travelling magicians split from the colonizers and travelled south. Later it became known, that they did so to contruct The Wizard Tower of Ancora.

From Adventus the Valkyries pressed inland, and while many settled in Adventus, many others followed them on their continued travels, following the guidance of the Valkyrie's Diviner Gloria The Wise.
Through their continued travels, at occations the Diviner stopped and declared a particular spot "bathed in The Light", where they rested before continuing their travels, and at each of these spots, some of the travelling entourage stopped and formed settlements - Lysétia, Prima Victoria and Gloria.

Lysétia was settled after a full day of travelling east directly though a forest. It was named in honor of The Light (Lys).

After yet another long day of travelling directly east though grassy fields, the colonizers came to a river where they were met by a band of barbaric Chimeras, but the Valkyries proved more powerful and slayed the enemy forces. By that river, the Diviner once again declared, that this place was "bathed in Light", and half of the remaining colonizers settled the town Prima Victoria here. In honor of the Valkyries' victory.

From here the remaining people travelled north east into the mountain range. As they reached and climbed the mountains, once again Gloria The Wise stopped the entourage and declared the ground "bathed in Light". Here Gloria gave her last breath. Stories tell that she had gotten ill or heavily wounded at Prima Victoria, and others tell it was simply time for her to join with the Light.
The remaining people here settled a town and named it Gloria in her honor. From the town square, if you know where to look, some of the mountain tops gather to make a form resembling her face as she laid dying.

With all the colonizers settled on a route inwards, the Valkyries were assumed to remain here, but instead they held a private meeting, after which they travelled east into the heavily forested wildlands, and they were never seen again.

Such is the tale of how civilization came to Ancora.
