exponentia inrita

Among the worlds population a small percentage are born or modified to be near invulnerable to directed magic. Often this is discovered when a child needs a healer. These unfortunate souls are called Breakers, Grõnd, or Rods.

Transmission & Vectors

Children exposed to magic dead zones, and reproduction. About one in fifty people with this pass it to their children, and if both parents have it, its one in three chance that they child will be born with it.

Causes

During great up welling in fonts of magic and pulses along ley-lines magic thins and sometimes dead zones temporarily are formed. Sometimes in these dead zones the young's arcane power is drained so thoroughly that they are imprinted as a void in the magic of the world. Beyond this the obvious lack of magical ability, it may go unnoticed until exposed to directed magic.

Symptoms

Frailty in early life, mild insomnia, a strange feeling when surrounded by powerful magic.

Treatment

No known cure...   Non directed magical healing, potions, or nanotech surgery proscribed for the injured.

Prognosis

Prognosis, patients diagnosed with exponentia inrita are recorded and reported to governmental authorities. Southern people are encouraged to dedicate the child to a local inquisitorial order to aid in the cause. Northerner schools often push people toward military vocations, but allow freedom of choice.

Prevention

magically charged ward stones can prevent exponentia inrita from taking root and most hospitals are protected as well. In private residences or unprotected areas the best protection is to move as the ebbs and flow of magic are predictable and well tracked.

History

In the early days of the colonization it was a rather common affliction, but as the reason behind it became common knowledge measures have been taken to prevent it by and large. Rates at the highest point were as high as one in fifteen thousand. Currently it is around 1 in two hundred and fifty thousand.

Cultural Reception

They are accepted with the slang for them being Breakers, Grõnd, or Rods.
Often paired with Magia colligentes to prevent them from being overly harmed by magic in combat. They also are most efficiently healed by them if you do not have time to heal them through potion or surgery.
