Olara

1490 SM

Created by

There is treasure to be made for those who are willing to travel to the island of Zin, a small dwarf inhabited land, nestled betwixt the two continents of the known world of Olara. Everyone knows this, from the nobles of the Northern Empire, the dueling halves of Khagalia, and the raiding nomads that brave the expanse of the Khathaban Union. Zin has always been known, despite its size, as the cradle of power for whichever side manages to sway its favour. The dwarves, from their mighty capital of Hal Kaldur, sell and trade some of the worlds most coveted technology and master-crafted luxuries. Large vessels dot their skyline, moving slowly through the air powered by their mastery of coal, fire and steel. Deafening bangs can be heard erupting from polished metal tubes, that send brass bearings speeding across a battlefield to meet their marks. This is not magic, as it is despised within the walls of the capital. The weave of the astral planes are still and kept in check by the high order under direct guidance of their regent, Straad Grumblehorn. Only those of keen mind, cunning tinkerers and daring inventors, have learned to control and manipulate the earths resources to create these powers unseen and unknown to most of the inhabitants of Olara.   Our story however, has more humble beginnings. A call for help had been placed from the Geared Keep of Hal Kaldur. The northern part of the island, mined out for millennia, mostly forgotten by their capital as it no longer held value and became home of many immigrant races of lesser fortune. Those few who decided to stay and mine for the scraps left behind met a foul fate. Those dwarves that had dug too deep, driven by greed, were succumbed by madness. Now worshipping new gods these grey dwarves, known as the Duergar, have taken hold of the northern half of the island, using the Ardow Cliffs as a natural barrier between the two factions. They have assumed regency over what is now being called Barag. Under the banner of their goddess Deep Duerra, the Axe Princess of Conquest, they seek to take hold of the whole island and its riches.   With the might of Zin stationed north at Kol Warhim, their forward base against the never ending onslaught of the Duergar, more trivial matters have been doled out to mercenaries abroad. It is rare for outsiders to be granted access to Zin, most of Olara only knows what the Geared Keep chooses to share. The rest of the daily lives of the Zinians are shrouded in mystery. It is now time for our adventurers to begin their stay on Zin in the Little Foot Fields. What will they leave behind in Olara’s Wake?
