The Myriad

The Myriad began as a small shipping company in Yrrosa, a city in the Dwendalian Empire. Originally selling exotic goods and services, over time it became more profitable to exploit illegal curiosities from the region of Othanzia and the city of Ank'Harel. Through years of establishing their underworld contacts and employing tactical blackmail, the Myriad evolved from illegal smuggling to a powerful and well-veiled criminal faction.   The Myriad has begun spreading into eastern Olcari. Much as they do in Wildemount, the Olcari Myriad keeps mainly to coastal cities and towns . This has led to a rivalry with Olcari's native crime syndicate, the Clasp.

Structure

The Myriad operates as a loose network of gang bosses running their own localised sects without direct oversight from the mysterious heads of the society. Tithes and Information are expected to be delivered to the leadership at a steady rate from each satellite of the organisation, and should the rate of return slow, quiet threats of enslavement or destruction soon follow.

Culture

Members of the Myriad are sworn to keep their syndicate secret by pretending that their chapter is still just another local gang. This has given the Myriad a sinister and enigmatic reputation, which further obfuscates its activities from the authorities. Since members of the the Myriad prefer coercion to public displays of violence, officers of the law often fail to recognize Myriad activity until it’s too late

Public Agenda

Keeping mainly to coastal and port cities in Olcari, the Myriad pursues the simple goals of financial excess and maintaining a ledger of favours owed to them by powerful diplomats and officials. Publicly dealing in antiquities and exotic textiles, the Myriad runs an efficient black market of slaves, magical beasts, weapons and illicit substances. Overt violence tends to draw unwanted attention, and the Myriad avoid it when possible, preferring to discredit, blackmail, or frame those who cross them. After all wielding the secrets of your competitor only makes it easier to eventually force them to work for you. Should such manipulation fail, however, kidnapping or assassination can be a quick and traceless final alternative.
