Properties

Material Characteristics

Lightly tinted pale wood, almost looking burned and ashy.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Hallowood radiates a light warmth and glow from it as the holy energy lightly seeps out. The wood additionally cannot be burned and is completely fire proof.

Geology & Geography

The wood can be made in places of great shadow and undeath, the largest provider of the material are the clerics of Shadow's Ward in Shade Hills as the land itself was marred by the shadow plane incursions, so it provides the largest easily accesible source of Shadewood to transform.

Origin & Source

Hallowood originates from Shadewood, regular wood that gets contorted by the shadows that infest the lands. It was originally found by accident during a battle in Karica against a shadow when a priest found the nearby trees that were once pure shadows were infused with his light after the battle, becoming a material of light and dark.

History & Usage

History

Hallowood, ever since its discovery, has been the leading material across the world in making items against undeath and shadows, whether its for staff handles, proper melee weapon or alternate items, Hallowood has instantly become a staple material.

Discovery

Hallowood was discovered after the Shadow Plane incursions when a catfolk cleric by the name of Growth Through The Soil found the trees around her stained with both her light and the shadow after her battle with a large shadowy beast. It was this accidental discovery that led to Hallowood becoming mass manufactured within Shade Hills as a way to repel the constant shadows.

Everyday use

Apart from its usage in weaponry and magical peripherals, Hallowood is a common building material in Shade Hills, especially those who live outside of the walls of Shadows Refuge or Shadevale as the intrinsic anti-undead properties of Hallowood prove all too useful.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Hallowood has a cultural importance to the Shadehill Bound, as even when those move out of Shade Hill their adventuring gear will always be fashioned out of either Hallowood or Shadewood, as a way to keep their family and land with them no matter where they go.

Manufacturing & Products

Largely, Hallowood is used for its effects against the undead, serving as a great base material for most weapons with additional materials being added in tandem to the Hallowood.

Distribution

Trade & Market

The item is only sold by the residents of Shade Hills and exported elsewhere to adventuring guilds who may have issues with the undead. It's rather expensive to both create and export so a majority of it stays within Karica.
