Muireach Assault Formation

An ancient fighting technique taught to the Sciadan Royal Guard by the first king, Lysandre Muireach, when he took his army into battle against Lord Chaffinch.

Composition

Manpower

The formation itself is made for nine people, eight guards and the king himself, though it can easily support more if necessary.

Equipment

The formation utilizes four swords each engraved with differen runes, two bows and one horse and one shield, along with the ruler, usually king, brandishing the Sword of Light passed down from ruler to ruler. Additionally, every member of the formation is given a very specific gemstone, one that allows them to speak to eachother telepathically.

Structure

The command structure is seemingly non existant to an enemy, the troops not speaking or calling out to one another and it is intentional, as the gemstone allows all troops to signify their complete intent to one another, the guards and king working in complete tandem.

Tactics

The tactics of this formation largely rely on mixups, each guard trained in a different fighting style allowing the group to easily butcher any enemy in front of them with a hail of confusing, different attacks.

Training

The training done by the specific guards selected to enter this formation with the king, undergoing a rigorous training exam harder than even that to get into the royal guard in the first place.

Logistics

Logistical Support

Usually, the only support the formation requires is an additional army behind them, as the intent of King Muireach stepping onto the battlefield is to help his soldiers cut a path through the opposing army and opening them up to defeat, allowing the rest of the army to advance easier.

History

The formation was first thought up as a desperate measure against Lord Chaffinch, when Lysandre Muireach had to take matters into his own hands and step onto the battlefield himself. He selected eight of his closest friends and guards and they went forward onto the battlefield to cut down hordes of undead, carving a path towards Castle Chaffinch. As the years progressed and Sciadan grew, so did the training required for the formation, each descendant and ruler of Sciadan being trained the same way the royal guards are as to upkeep the honor of their ancestor, Lysandre.

It's interesting that it's been maintained just as Lysadre originally organized it, especially as it sounds like they might now have the manpower that the king doesn't need to be a part of it, and could potentially take a safer (back)seat
