Pollard Bales

Pollard Bales is a travelling Luthier, a person who makes and repairs stringed instruments, such as guitars and fiddles. While traveling near Stonega, VA, he got lost in Jimmie's Hell and ran into the Sentient Tree. Promising her he'd help find a way to free her, he took some of her wood and she showed him the way out. Pollard quickly waved away the encounter as a dream, gave up on helping, and used some of the wood to repair Opaline Reave's fiddle. This betrayal lead to the town being cursed once Leenie took up the fiddle to play at a local dance. Pollard suffered from a dibilitating sickness due to his betrayal.
