Wýðúric Expedition
The Wýðúric Expedition, or Yarpalïŋ-Wýðúr, was the second major expedition out of the Ïlýrhonid. Like its predecessor, the Hayïdic Expedition, its members also explored the Amoŋot Desert, this time by sailing up the Khërn River. Despite occurring after the Hayïdic Expedition, the Wýðúric Expedition is largely credited for jumpstarting the Ýmïlýrhonid Movement, being the first example of a truly 'successful' venture into the wilderness.
The Wýðúric Expedition was a joint collaboration between Wýðúr and Ikheðep, the latter being a survivor of the earlier Hayïdic Expedition. From the recountings of Ikheðep, Wýðúr's expedition featured a grand reduction in the adventuring party, from around 4,300 down to 650, and the novel addition of what were called Wëbëlup, or 'saluters/heralders', 5-6-meter-long sticks with a variable amount of stones bound to each one. Each subdivision of the group was given five to seven Wëbëlup's, and the locations where they planted them became the basis for some of the most populous cities in the Desert, including Vërðïm, Lómóhüd and Óvarhën. In all, only 7 participants died, most of them from physical injury.
The only city founded by the expedition members was Güðün, in which about 500 decided to stay. Adhering with the practice of the return messenger established by the Hayïdic Expedition, 144 of the participants returned with a report; despite considerable efforts from the Ïlýrhondian government to suppress it, the report spread throughout the populace, leading to the Khýnýšic Expedition only a few months later.
