Yrdul (Yer-DUL)

God of Strife and Conflict

(a.k.a. The Unnameable One; Lord of All That is Broken; The Interceder)

Yrdul is the god of strife and conflict. After  Yrdul's Strike, the event in which they released untold horrors upon the world and created the daemon peoples, they have been on the run from divine justice. However, they still find ways to intercede in the world, although this is usually in ways that the peoples of Olrion consider "evil". While they can be propitiated, typically they choose to aid those who will be creating the most conflict, for this is what they delight in the most. Their hedonism knows no bounds, for they crave the twisted pleasure of watching the world burn, and neither does their desire for power.

Tenets of Faith

There are two peoples in Olrion who widely venerate Yrdul still: the orcish and daemons. The reasons they do this and the mannerism in which they do varies greatly. There are, from time to time, also rumours of other cults that venerate the god, formed of different peoples from all walks of life.

Orcish Worship

The orcish venerate Yrdul because, as they say, you cannot have growth without conflict of some kind. They do not agree with the god's actions but do recognise the widespread effects of them. They sometimes also sacrifice and pray to the god for assistance in the strife they suffer as an oppressed group in Olrion. However, they do not class their actions as "worship" but rather due respect to an influential figure in Olrion's history.

Daemon Worship

Daemons worship Yrdul for they are their creator and because they frequently intervene "positively" in the lives of daemons, for their actions bring the most entertainment to the god. The methods of worship vary between the different types of daemon, but there are rumours of sacrificial rites in which the lives of captured members of the other peoples' populations are offered up to the god.

Cultic Worship

Various cults spring up from time to time that worship the god as "The Interceder". They see Yrdul's influence as the most notable of all the gods, and believe that if they please them, they will be granted power like that of their patron. As such, these cults typically appeal to the god's hedonistic nature. Sacrifice of peoples is not uncommon, in a similar vein to how the daemons do it. Orgies are also rumoured, with or without consensual participants, as are acts of self-harm in the name of the god or in order to induce trance states to commune with them. These cults are secretive and no one knows the extent of influence they have within the world. Many have risen and fallen because of their depraved ways practically invites mob justice against them.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Yrdul seeks greater and greater power over the shaping of Olrion, stretching far beyond the horrors they have already unleashed. Even the other gods cannot understand their need for control and influence, nor why they delight in evil so much.

Physical Description

Body Features

The gods are depicted anthropomorphically, usually as the people who have created these artistic depictions. This does mean that dragons do see Yrdul as looking like them, but because their numbers in Olrion are few, most depictions conform to a humanoid model (the orcish are fans of much more abstract art in general, and also have less ability to make it due to the circumstances of their oppressed lives).

Yrdul is depicted as "masculine", despite being genderless, with pale grey skin. Sometimes they have red war paint smeared across the nose and body, and scars across their form as a sign of their martial abilities. Instead of war paint, they are sometimes covered with tribal tattoos based on those popular with whomever is creating the art.

Facial Features

Yrdul is depicted with a bald head, firstly. Their eyes are completely black, including the sclera, and very hooded. They have frown lines on their forehead and around their mouth, which has a plump bottom lip. Their nose appears to have been broken quite badly in the past, a way of depicting the battles with their siblings, and sometimes they are shown to have scars for this reason too. They frequently have red war paint smeared across the nose, as a demonstration of their affinity with war.

Apparel & Accessories

Yrdul is depicted as topless at all times. They typically wear black leather trousers with a fur skirt of sorts over the top and a belt with a large silver buckle depicting the lion1 about to pounce. They are usually barefoot but trailing blood everywhere, as if they have been standing in the claret of bested enemies.
1 Lions are associated with a kind of strength and ferocity that knows no moral bounds, so are animalistic and feral in quality. As such, they are a popular symbol to use with Yrdul and have since become associated with them.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Yrdul was born conjoined to their twin, Mylaileen, when Verduna's egg shattered open. At first, they took a backseat role in the formation of Olrion as a planet, for their bickering with their twin put off the other gods from allowing them a role in creation.

Yrdul quickly grew jealous of their siblings' influence over the formation of the world and dreamed up a plan of revenge. After telling this to Mylaileen, the pair had an almighty fight, in which Yrdul physically ripped away from their twin. The events that followed quickly became known as Yrdul's Strike, in which they decimated the continent of Olrion, unleashing daemons and evil upon the world.

Since the strike occurred, Yrdul has been on the run from their siblings, fighting back with a boundless fury every time they have come close to capturing them.

Gender Identity

While genderless and sexless, gods may be depicted in ways that conform to certain humanoid notions of this. Yrdul is no exception. While their depictions typically give them a "masculine" appearance, such notions would be entirely meaningless and even confusing for the god.

Sexuality

The gods do not reproduce. As such, Yrdul is not known to have any sexual or romantic attractions.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Yrdul is greatly pleased with the effects of the events known as Yrdul's Strike. They delight in the horrors it unleashed, for they find this most entertaining. They are particularly proud of the plethora of daemons that formed as a result of their actions, and of their continued ability to outwit and out-fight their siblings in their escape from divine justice.

Morality & Philosophy

Yrdul is known to be immoral by both mortal and godly standards. They prize, above all else, might and power and will go to any length to achieve this, including harming and imprisoning their own siblings where they deem it necessary. They have no concern over the fact that they unleashed evil upon Olrion. While they can be propitiated through sacrifice, they are known to be even more capricious than the other gods, as they seem to be extremely hedonistic: they will endorse and aid those from whom they gain the most pleasure. What they delight in is their own godly areas, namely strife and conflict. It is for this reason that they take most interest in their daemonic creations.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Yrdul, above all, craves power. They felt slighted by their siblings, which wounded their pride, and hence conspired against them. But the craving for power never abates. While they have caused untold damage to Olrion, they wish to extend their influence even further. No one knows how far this striving for control will go and what will sate the desire for it.
