2021 Peculiar Plants Challenge Entry Review

Update - World Anvil Short Lists

I'd like to thank everyone who supported me (and the other entrants) with your likes and comments. I'm so grateful and happy to say that I've achieved my stretch goal of making the short list for the "Regular League" entries, and I couldn't have done it without you all!

Also, now that the competition entry and share period has passed, you should also checkout Satrium's Stats Page if you're interested in that side of the challenge.

My Readings and (Extensive) Favourites

The following articles(i) are my favourite entries to the Peculiar Plants Competition. Don't be discouraged if you're not listed. I may not have gotten to your article (see below) and, even if I did, I'm just a nobody on the internet with personal preferences. F what I have to say - you create your work for you and your audience. As Janet and Dimi often say, "not all content is written for all audiences."

For equal representation, I've listed and linked each of the 183 valid(i) entries (and respective author profiles) at the end of this article.

Redacted Articles

I apologize to anyone who submit their entry between 22 March and the deadline on 10 April. Due to personal matters, I couldn't maintain my daily reading habit and peruse each entry as it was published. I tried my best to support everyone in the community during the share week (10 - 17 April) by revisiting and commenting, liking, and updating my list. I managed to comment on 104 articles (~150 read) before I needed to rest so, again, my sincere apologies to those I did not get to in time.

DO NOT STOP TO SMELL THESE F%&KING ROSES!
This description of my entry certainly put a smile on my face :D

Apr 10, 2021 21:33 by Mark Laybolt

Glad I could make you laugh!

Apr 10, 2021 23:48 by R. Dylon Elder

O.O thanks so much! I appreciate such kind words!

Apr 11, 2021 00:04 by Jeruviel Stardust

Aloha e Olutanri,   I just submitted my entry at the last minute (literally). It is called the TimeKnot and is viewable at: https://www.worldanvil.com/w/cry28s29word-saga-multiverse-jeruviel/a/timeknot-rambling-mound-species   Would you mind giving a gander and I can see if I make it into any of your categories? I love what you are doing with this page here by the way, thank you!!   Ke aloha, Jeruviel

Apr 11, 2021 16:06 by Mark Laybolt

Hi Jeruviel!   Thanks for commenting with your article. It appears that you may have missed the deadline (I'd suggest reaching out to someone on the Discord to see if you can get added to the list of entrants) but I did read/comment on your article. I'd add your article to my "great art" category but I couldn't tell if you were the artist (KyleTrueTrue) or had permission to use the piece based on how you've credited the image. If you let me know the details, I'll adjust accordingly!

Apr 11, 2021 20:02 by Jeruviel Stardust

I am awaiting the assistance of WA authorities to get added to the official entry list, but allegedly I am still in the running so far, we just need to talk first.   And yes I do have permission, I contracted and paid @KyleTrueTrue to create the art specifically by my instructions for this challenge ... I am super pleased with how it came out and highly recommend working with him.

Apr 11, 2021 21:06 by Mark Laybolt

Glad to hear you actually hired the artist for your article. I agree - it's incredibly well done. I've added your article both to my 'complete entry list' and the "great art" category!

Apr 12, 2021 19:17 by Gilly-May Hartill

Thanks so much for the mention, this challenge was a blast <3

Gilly Hartill   Fantasy world builder, aspiring author & lover of all things RPG.
Apr 13, 2021 14:29 by Mark Laybolt

Of course, great work deserves to be recognized!

Apr 14, 2021 14:39

This is so awesome that you are doing this, and I'm glad I could make it on one of your lists!

Apr 14, 2021 15:02 by Mark Laybolt

Thanks for the support / appreciation Sodose. I find it very difficult to get visibility as new/amateur creator so I'm trying to help out the community in case they're in the same boat :)

Apr 14, 2021 15:37 by Maybe Stewart

You are INCREDIBLE.

Apr 14, 2021 15:40 by Mark Laybolt

Aww thanks Maybe <3

Apr 14, 2021 20:02 by LexiCon (WordiGirl)

Apr 16, 2021 21:01 by Amélie I. S. Debruyne

To see what I am up to: my Summer Camp 2024.
Apr 16, 2021 23:27 by Mark Laybolt

lol thank you Amelie!

Apr 17, 2021 01:47

Your intro/tidbit about Harpoon cactus just made my night. Thank you for that

Check out some of my summer camp articles, like the dangerous flying jackalope or dragon wasps. Or, for something more light-hearted, there is the whimsical language Gobbledygook and Jaden's interesting job as a guano polisher.
Apr 17, 2021 14:58 by Mark Laybolt

You're welcome!

Apr 17, 2021 17:06 by James Woodwright

I love my Entry in the list made me laugh until I asked you to correct it! you should do these for all challenges.

Apr 17, 2021 20:10 by Mark Laybolt

I'm hoping to but, since it relies on me reading everyone's entry, I may not have the time to along with my day job and creating content. So hopefully people understand my limits and shortfalls. In the meantime, I'm happy you liked my one liners and I appreciate your appreciation that I've made this article in the first place!
