DE HVEM
(Norwegian) The Who
A deep rumbling propogates from a nearby building. The sound builds into a barotone harmonic so powerful that it must stem from the core of the world. Entranced, your feet shuffle toward its source, marching to the primal rhythm established by momentary interruptions in the vibration.
As you draw closer, additional higher pitched sounds fill the gaps to challenge the tempo, pitch, and volume of its predecessor. The heavier of the two sounds rebukes the challenge with the grumbling of boulders tumbling down the sides of a great mountain.
Your hand lands on a wooden door.
A rolling chorus of unintelligible sounds crash against the base of the same mountain in reprissal, daring the boulders to plummet into their unfathomable depths. The firey excitement of a spark before the explosion crawls up your arm without your permission.
A compliment of flute, fiddle, jaw harp, and drum fills the air as you press your full weight against the door, seemingly held closed by the sound.
In brief moment of clarity, your eyes pierce the haze. A tavern, its patrons eerily silent and still unanimously attentive to the eight imposing figures at the back of the room.
Your vision goes black.
The next day you awake with the sunrise as you always do. Your head throbs agony to the beat of your heart. Every part of you is stiff and sore like you ran a hundred hundred miles while wrestling a bear.
You've never felt more alive.
