It was created by Johnathan Redwood, brother of Martin Redwood who created the more popular chain Papa Sean's. It was the combination of a pizzeria and children's entertainment zone.
Design
They used large rectangular buildings to accommodate for everything that needed to fit inside. The outside was unassuming; the chain's name was on the top front in large blocky letters. Its mascot was pictured above the name.
The interior is divided between the dining area and entertainment zone. There are large booths that can fit 8 people. The play area is filled with different arcade games. At the back of the entertainment zone is a stage for performances by the chain's mascot and friends.
Mascot
John E Cheese is also known for Patty the possum. He is their mascot and his face was on all of their merch at the time. A staff member would wear a raggedy looking mascot costume and spend their shift walking around and entertaining the children.
Patty had several friends that would make appearances. Together they formed a band with Patty being the lead singer. Cathy the crocodile played the banjo. Larry the llama played the drums. Billy the bullfrog didn't do much but dance around the stage.
Downfall
Johnathan tried hard to out-do his brother Martin, but there was no passion. He was greedy and cheap. John cut too many corners which resulted in poor quality food and disgruntled employees.
The chain managed to stay open for five years. The increasing amount of bad reviews and health violations over that span led to its full closure.Out of Business
