Durdand
Race of short but long-lived people with an overall fondness for crafting and drinking.
A small excerpt from the book 'Intelligent Life in Gaia', by Hum'ro Skadi, as published in 2335 AFL.
While the legends tell a wondrous tale of their past, most Durdand opt not to believe any words that might hold truths of their past. Instead, most of these strong and hearty people divide live their lives in pursuit of both the pleasures of today and the edification of tomorrow. In other words, they seldom look to the past for answers, choosing to live in the moment and only build their ways forward.
A vast majority of Durdand live in the central and southern parts of the mainland continent, usually avoiding Norüman altogether due to two facts: the unbearable cold, and the overall distaste for the lifestyle of the people of Cran'Tal, whose humble servitude somewhat irks durdands in their belief that life should be cherished and enjoyed, not given away and sacrificed so freely.
Durdand tend to live in large settlements and adhere to strict sets of work rules. Tradition calls for them to wake up early for work, but to always give themselves a break for a siesta after lunch. According to their old teachings, all hard work must be rewarded.
"... although I am not quite sure where they originate from. Not even the eldest and wisest among the Durdand that live in Lindblum are aware of their true origins. Legends say they were originally golems forged in the deepest reaches of Gaia, crafted with the intent to produce a massive workforce that could facilitate their creator's goals of building this world up from nothing. As such, this would indicate that Durdands are actually the oldest race in all of Gaia. Their golem ancestors would supposedly have been the ones to build the earth - mountains, valleys, plains, ravines, all of it. Once their task was done, the Durdand were supposedly given the spark of life by their creators and allowed to live in this world they created, along with a plethora of different sentient beings. They were given to a crafty and life-loving set of precepts that seems to have followed these people to the modern day."
