Kattarauga

Kattarauga are a species of feline humanoids that hail from the northern wilds of Norüman, where they historically assembled in small tribes that hunted and foraged for a living, a nomadic lifestyle unsuited for the modern era. Due to this fact, most tribes have taken to establishing themselves in Cran'Tal or some farming settlements in western Lindblum.

"... I am glad to inform that, by divine providence or some long-forgotten elder's strong hand, they have taken to the cities and begun to mingle with other cultures and ways of life. I express this relief in such a manner because the barbaric means by which kattaraugi tribes, the so-called 'dalos', were forced to cull their numbers to stay alive - a practice they were forced into, given violence against others was clearly not an effective tactic - would eventually deprive the rest of Gaia of their unique culture and experiences.   This author has always been fully expressive of his fondness of different cultures and has made every attempt to understand the way of life of others. I believe there is a place for every sentient being to exist peacefully in Gaia."

  • A small excerpt from the book 'Intelligent Life in Gaia', by Hum'ro Skadi, as published in 2335 AFL.

  •   Initially separated into small tribes - ten to fifteen members in size, at most - the Kattarauga dominated the wilds of central and western Norüman in ancient days. Having seldom entered territorial conflicts with members of other species and larger settlements, they always maintained strict birth control that bordered on the fanatical. Ancient deities were used as threats against young couples that contemplated the idea of having more than one baby, as more mouths to feed could mean the downfall of a particular tribe. Many tribes fell due to poor preparation for Norüman's harsh winters and the food shortages accompanied by such, and so their race was always considered to be rare, themselves choosing to remain this way.
Over the centuries, many tribes migrated to larger settlements and made their lives among those more civilized. Others, still, migrated south to Lindblum to maintain their nomadic style in the Elderwood. Seen as these woods were far more bountiful than any stretch of their northern home, some chose to take permanent residence in these parts and left their wandering nature behind. Others, still, moved to the west and took up residence and work in the Fields of Iðunn. Many more centuries have passed since, and Kattarauga are more plentiful, although still existing mostly in Lindblum and Cran'Tal, seen as their connection to nature is highly valued in their culture.

    Darkvision

You have a cat’s keen senses, especially in the dark. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

    Feline Agility

Your reflexes and agility allow you to move with a burst of speed. When you move on your turn in combat, you can double your speed until the end of the turn. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you move 0 feet on one of your turns.

    Cat’s Claws

Because of your claws, you have a climbing speed of 20 feet. In addition, your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

You have proficiency in the Perception and Stealth skills.
