Dr. Galaxy's Cola was launched in 3149 by Dr. Galaxy (Joseph O'Neill, 3079 - 3184). In addition to the cola, DGC also sells a variety of merchandise and publishes comic books and cartoons.
Timeline
Launch and Early Years
O'Neill was a food scientist who, over his long career, developed the formula for Dr. Galaxy's Cola when he was in his mid-sixties and launched the drink and brand when he was 70. He had a difficult time trying to get his purple cola off the ground for the first few years, so finally, in 3149, he decided to do everything himself and launched the cola independently.
Rebranding and the Launch of Captain Fizzy
In 3160, Dr. Galaxy and his scientists discovered a way to infuse the bottles with a naturally occurring element that kept the glass bottles cold so long as there was a liquid inside them. It was then he added the tagline "The Best and Coldest Cola in the Quadrant" to the logo, a slogan which is now synonymous with the actual name itself. The logo was then updated in 3165 with the launch of the character Captain Fizzy, the Purple Cola, along with a massive marketing campaign.

Merchandise of Captain Fizzy outsold the actual drink in the first five months of the launch. The merchandise included clothes (shirts, caps, shoes, sunglasses), commemorative bottles and glasses, toys and statuettes, and, for a limited time, a replica of Captain Fizzy's rocket for kids. Various stores around the quadrant embraced the marketing campaign and made their stores Dr. Galaxy's Cola themed, including adding quarter-credit rocket rides outside of their stores. Upon the huge success of Captain Fizzy, Dr. Galaxy announced at the end of 3165 that plans were in the work for Captain Fizzy related games, comic books, and cartoons to be launched within the next few years that would introduce new characters and add another dimension to the character.
The Comics and Cartoons
Dr. Galaxay announced on March 19th, 3166 during one of his rare on-screen appearances, that the cola distributor would be launching the first-ever Captain Fizzy comic books entitled, The Adventures of Captain Fizzy.

The comics introduced the characters of Commander Quench (Captain Fizzy's sidekick), Rizz (Captain Fizzy's little sister), and the maniacal Professor Carbon (Captain Fizzy's arch-nemesis). The cover of the now super-rare Adventure #1 was revealed in Dr. Galaxy's announcement to tease the upcoming comics. The reception was so enthusiastic, that Dr. Galaxy released the toys and plushies of the characters before the first comic was even published.
Due to the immense success of The Adventures of Captain Fizzy, a cartoon was made of the Purple Cola's adventures that aired every Saturday morning starting on April 23rd, 3169. Instead of normal ads that would appear during regular broadcasts, Dr. Galaxy insisted that the products pushed during the cartoon be kid-friendly. This gave rise to the never-seen-but-always-heard DGC Announcer who would interrupt the cartoon halfway through each episode, comment on what had happened so far in the show, advertise for something DGC related, complain about his producers, and then sign off. The DGC Announcer became almost a character himself. When some complaints started to arise that the Announcer always sounded drunk, he was removed for a few episodes, but the complaints about not having him on the show caused a far greater backlash. He was added back in, along with his griping about his producers and his slurred "Now back to your scheduled programming!"
Royal T. Flush and Dr. Galaxy came to an agreement in 3170 to move DGC Headquarters from its original place on Heverran to Aztlan. This allowed for Dr. Galaxy to have his bottling plant, printing company, and production company all in one localized place. For the most part, all Captain Fizzy comics were (and still are) sponsored by the Aztlan Spaceport and have a featured ad within the comic books. In his memoir, titled Life's Just Fizzy, published after his death in 3184, Dr. Galaxy stated that the distribution of the cola would not have reached the heights it did had it not been for Flush and the move to Aztlan.
As of 3194, The Adventures of Captain Fizzy comic reached 975 adventures. The first ten adventures are the rarest and typically sell for over 100,000 credits. The first printed copy of Adventure #1 sold for c5 mil (5 million credits) on July 16th, 3190 to an anonymous buyer during one of the many auctions of Dr. Galaxy's estate. The buyer donated the comic back to the cola company to be displayed at Dr. Galaxy's Headquarters on Aztlan. Many assume Royal T. Flush was the buyer, but Mr. Flush denies any involvement in the purchase.
Original Formula and New Flavors
For the first ten years, the only flavor available was Original. Over time, more and more flavors were released to positive reception.

The most common flavors available most everywhere are Original, Vanilla Spiral, Cherry Twist, Grape Cluster, Fusion, and Lemon Jet. The rarer flavors are Orange Nova, Cosmic Raspberry, and Mango Eclipse. In an attempt to appeal to the adults, Dr. Galaxy launched two alcoholic drinks, Dark Matter and Black Hole. While they were super popular, actually finding those flavors is rare.
Because of the distinctiveness of the bottles and colors that coordinate with the flavors, many people collect the bottles along with the bottle caps. When the DGC Company learned that people were saving these, they started "Cap-Trade" in which ten bottle caps can be handed in for one Original flavored cola; 15 for Cherry Twist or Vanilla Spiral flavor; or 20 for Grape Cluster, Fusion, or Lemon Jet flavor.
In 3171, Dr. Galaxy launched a breakfast cereal thanks to the huge success of the Saturday morning cartoon. Each box contained a toy as well as a cutout coupon for "any Dr. Galaxy Cola of your choice!" While the cereal only lasted a few years, the toys contained in them have since become highly sought-after collectibles.
As for the formulas for Dr. Galaxy's Cola, the one and only copies are locked in a vault underneath DGC Headquarters and are kept under constant guard.
