Divine Domains

Chaos, Change, Rebirth, Chance, Luck, Ignicera, Individuality, Freedom, Rebellion, patron to Sapphrians and lycanthropes.

Tenets of Faith

Sarthu's main tenets revolve around change and individuality. He is worshipped by those who are dissatisfied with the current state of their world, whether it be dissatisfaction with government or dissatisfaction with themselves. He encourages worshippers to go against the mainstream and what is considered the norm by society, to fully embrace themselves as a unique individual, challenging the status quo. His worshippers often act on impulse, seeing these sudden thoughts and feelings as signs from their patron deity. His worshippers believe in living every moment to its fullest, and leaving as great an impact on the world as they can, changing it for better or for worse.

Holidays

Sarthunidia - An annual feast held throughout Sapphria which lasts between five and twenty days in honor of Sarthu, the creation of the Sapphrians, and their exodus from Tarak to Sapphria. The length of the festival is chosen by chance using methods which vary from location to location, including rolling of dice and drawing of straws.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Sarthu is the pure embodiment of Chaos, and so has no goals that are able to be understood by mortal minds. They are utterly unpredictable, and grants boons and inflicts curses seemingly at random. The only unifying motivation of Sarthu seems to be to cause change, although to what end is unknown.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Sarthu is typically depicted as something between a Sapphrian man with dark hair, a bat-winged, horned demon, and a savage animal, with different aspects of each creature emerging in flux with one another. He is partially clad in armor, although this also appears to be in flux. He has glowing purple eyes, and wields a ball of Ignicera. Statues depicting him are often enchanted to perpetually contain a ball of Ignicera in his hands.

Body Features

Sarthu's body is hard to describe, at is depicted as being in constant flux. Body parts appear and disappear and proportions change seemingly at random. In many depictions he has the bat wing of a demon emerging from his right side, and may have clawed hands or feet or a tail. In statuary, however, he is more often depicted as mostly human, although perhaps with some animalistic or demonic attributes, like clawed hands or feet.

Facial Features

Sarthu's face is depicted as constantly shifting between that of a man, a horned demon, and an animal. He is sometimes called the God of Many Faces. in most depictions, his face is mostly human, with the horn of a demon growing from his right forehead and a wolf's head emerging from the left side of his head. This is not to say that these are the only three forms his face takes, but this is the most common representation.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Sarthu was among the first gods to come into existence after the First Creation, and fought alongside Barakil and Jiaantor to exact vengeance on Eo. He wielded the Warping Blade, which could cut through the fabric of reality itself.   Later, he would bestow a curse on the mortal huntress Idredd, causing her form to perpetually shift from beast to human. Later, Sarthu's wife Celeste would link the curse to herself, and Nesiri, the Goddess of the Hunt, would teach her the ways of the wolf, and so the first lycanthrope was created.

Social

Family Ties

Most folk believe that Sarthu was spawned from Zalcar along with other deities, and consider him to be the somewhat related to Barakil and Jiaantor. Others believe that Barakil, Jiaantor, and Sarthu are all individualized aspects of the same deity, while others believe that he, along with the other six spawned from Zalcar, are simply individualized aspects of Zalcar. Some believe he is analogous to the Jornic god Surthr, and may also have ties to the Sutherlandic god Brand. He is the husband Celeste and the father of Salvatore.
