Death Changes

Once you are resurrected, you draw a number of cards from a tarot deck (major arcana only) equal to the number of times you have died. The table interprets the results of the card draw. As a starting point:
  • First death (single card) is usually a single significant personality change.
  • Second death (two cards) makes a more complex psychological change-- that may also alter a more concrete characteristic or skill.
  • Third death (three cards) will affect gameplay significantly, for better and/or for worse (likely both). Multiple changes of various degrees might be required to fully depict the results of the draw.
Orientation of the cards can matter or not, as your ability to interpret the results requires. Changes never cancel each other out. Subsequent changes might, however, build on or complicate the previous ones. Remove drawn cards from the deck, and do not add cards back in the deck for subsequent deaths.  If you can’t draw enough cards, or if you draw The Tower, you are permanently dead. (The Tower is traditionally removed from the deck for the first draw.)   Take heed-- all deaths echo through the planes. Death also changes your relationship with the universe, and vice versa. Your DM reserves the right to change the world around you in response.   Also, you get a cool scar. The table definitely talks about your cool scar. (Not applicable with Reincarnation or Clone.)
