Sweater
A sweater is a soft garment meant to cover the torso and arms, particularly suited to protect its wearer from cold temperatures. Sweaters are knitted or crocheted from the wool of a sheep, alpaca, furwÿrmë, or other creature with similar wool or hair. They are typically constructed to be pulled over the head, though some styles of sweater are open at the front and close with buttons or toggles. Because sweaters retain warmth, they are most often seen during autumn and winter in cold or temperate climates.
Symbolically, a sweater is a sign of love and protection. In the northern Aquatic Kingdoms, a hand-knitted sweater is a common bereavement gift. These bereavement sweaters often use favorite colors, patterns, or motifs related to the deceased. It is said that the warmth provided by the sweater symbolizes the warmth the recipient's lost loved one felt towards them.
Sweaters are a prominent export from traders of the Beacon of the Skylands. Nomads of the Beacon are skilled herders who raise goats, sheep, and alpacas in the cold steppes of the Northern Duchy. The high quality of wool spun from these livestock, when incorporated with the weaving culture of the Orokhim, produces incredibly high-quality garments prized throughout the Dovrian Plains and beyond.
