Lunar Return Initiative

The Lunar Return Initiative was a joint venture between several international space agencies and commercial space companies. The goal of the Lunar Return Initiative was to establish a permanent presence on Earth's moon Luna by the year 2069, marking 100 years since the first human walked on the Moon. Several manned explorations and surveys of the Moon took place in the years leading up to the reestablishment of Tranquility Base.   The Lunar Return Initiative was partially inspired by the Century To Mars Program, and the two projects often worked cooperatively towards mutual goals. Long term colonization of Mars, for instance, was only feasible thanks to Lunar and Orbital support facilities.   The Lunar Return Initiative was ultimately successful, establishing a colony that would serve as a base camp for future operations. Funds for the Lunar Return Initiative were eventually turned over to the upkeep for Tranquility Base and future expansions.
