Marine Expeditionary Brigade

The Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB) is the standard deployable ground combat unit of the TASA Marine Corps. The 50 Expeditionary Brigades make up the bulk of the ground forces in the TASA Marine Corps. More than 1/3 of TASA Marines are assigned to a Marine Expeditionary Brigade in some capacity.   Marine Expeditionary Brigades are designed to balance maneuverability and firepower, and are primarily employed to take and hold key terrain, including via orbital deployment. MEBs employ their own organic contingent of combat support and combat service support, allowing flexibility and independence. The MEB is organized around three Infantry Battalions as their primary maneuver element, with a Light Armored contingent to provide fire support when necessary.   Marine Expeditionary Brigades are further classified into two categories: Joint and Unitary. Joint Marine Expeditionary Brigades (JMEBs) are composed of personnel from two or more TASA member nations. Unitary Brigades (UMEBs) are manned entirely by a single TASA Nation. As of 2300 there are 30 Joint and 20 Unitary MEBs among the ranks of TASA.   Marine Expeditionary Brigades often reorganize into smaller Task Forces centered around one or more of their Battalions, Squadrons from an attached Joint Aerospace Wing , and other supports depending on the mission at hand.

History

When TASA was formed, the primary combat element was known as an Aerospace Security Brigade. These Brigades were generalized towards all forms of land, air, and space combat. As TASA grew, the Marine Corps was able to further stratify their forces into different formations ranging from Armored and Mechanized Brigades to Fleet Security Units specialized in space warfare.   The current structure of the Marine Expeditionary Brigade was enacted in the later years of the War of the Americas. In 2271, the 1st Marine Mechanized Brigade at Fort Bliss reformed into the 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade, becoming the first such formation in the TASA Marine Corps. The unit later gained the designation of "Unitary Marine Expeditionary Brigade," formalizing its exclusive composition of North American Marines. Most other Marine ground combat formations reorganized into MEBs or Heavy Brigades in the years following the bloody American Conflict.
