Dwarves

Dwarves tend to grow beards before they learn to walk, and learn how to wield tools when their motor skills first develop. They are boisterous warriors and skilled builders.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dwarves are squat and barrel chested humanoids. They are a hardy people.

Ecology and Habitats

Dwarves prefer feeling as they are underground - Heaven leaves them uneasy, for the most part. They mimic the long destroyed great underground halls on the surface of Orasrupt with great building projects that use their petrified corpses, as well as the petrified corpses of the Gods littering Orasrupt.

Biological Cycle

Notable is the repose of the dwarves, found abhorrent by the other races. As dwarves begin to die, they begin a slow process of petrification that can take weeks or months, a curse or blessing from a long dead god. They say that YISUN judges their lives and deeds, and transforms them into rock and mineral based on their deeds. The most mediocre turn into stone, to be put into statuary graveyards or used in vast construction projects when their names are forgotten - something that can happen rather quickly. Meanwhile, those who achieved valiant lives become more valuable, usually turning to valuable metals or minerals. The more grand the deeds, the stronger the substance. Many ancestral clan weapons are literally made of ancestors whose deeds have not since been forgotten. Some of these weapons are rumoured to hold onto their personalities, but dwarves prevent anyone from verifying this.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Dwarves revere age, wisdom, and skill.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Dead dwarves are the most common source of raw metals and materials on Orasrupt. While some still make expeditions into the broken multiverse and strip planes bare, it is much easier to buy from the dwarvish craftsmen.

Dwarves are not very beautiful.

Average Intelligence

Dwarves are a highly wise society of warrior philosophers. Their intelligence is highly regarded, but they are widely uncomfortable with interacting with the outside world.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The majority of Dwarves are able to see in the night, from years underground in mines. Further, their uncanny knowledge of stonework means they can detect many of these things at a moment's notice.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Dwarves have a great variety in names, but they typically go with those that align with the harsh dwarvish language.

Major Organizations

There are two major players in Dwarvish society, who find themselves constantly at one another's throats.

The Grand Artisan

The position of Grand Artisan is a merit based position. When one dies, a new one is promptly voted into office by the 68 Elder Artisans who followed him in life. His body is melded into the ever growing Great Work of the Dwarves - a highly secretive project that only the Grand Artisans and the Elder Artisans know the details of. Those who follow the Grand Artisan muse the works of YISUN, working to sustain and understand them. Further, the Guild of the Grand Artisan hires out Dwarvish artisans across Orasrupt for great fees, for works both grand and small.

The Thûrandur Kings

The Thûrandur Kings are three Dwarvish kings who rule three small kingdoms on Orasrupt. Those Dwarves that do not fall under the purview of the Grand Artisan tend to gravitate towards the Thûrandur Kings. Similarly, skilled artisans tend to gravitate away from the Kings towards the domain of the Grand Artisan. The Thûrandur Kings are much more militarist than the Guild of the Grand Artisan, and tend to hire out great mercenary armies to support the ambitious of Orasrupt.

Average Technological Level

Dwarvish culture does not focus greatly on technological progress, instead sticking staunchly to the warrior traditions of old and the societies that birthed them.
