Apospyre

Source of Ebony

A species of decideus trees native to the slopes of Mount Ebenos. Its black hard wood is a luxury item supplying the entirety of the Keratos Empire and beyond.

Ecology and Habitats

Apospyres live in temperate areas over a certain altitude.
It presents giant blue flowers whose fruits attracted Megabats up until they were driven off for exploiting the wood safely. As seed dispersors, their absence has been observed to hurt the overall production in modern days.

Conservation Status

The sustainability of this species is crucial to the Empire from a cultural and financial standpoint. Harvesting too much of it is out of the question. Finding methods to accelerate its growth or allow its spread on new territories is an interesting challenge for Polymaths and naturalists.
