Dire Frog
"Please dont spit on me-please dont spit on me-please dont spit on me-please-please-don't..."A Demon scout moments before being spit on.Inhabitants of the ancient Gorge of Deloth's treacherous marshes, these frogs can emit a sticky and odorant spit that reminds of rotting flesh. They use it to attract and swallow Mad Carps or to defend against creatures by sticking them to the mud. Their legs are said to be a delicacy, though hunting Dire Frogs is a risky endeavour even for professionnals. Some specimens have been observed to have some proficiency in water magic which helps them naviguate the swamps in case of extreme danger as well as decimate large areas if threatened.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Anatomically similar to their far smaller cousins, Dire Frogs can stand as high as an Imp though their extended body be as long as a horse. Their heads are as large as their stomach, with goggly eyes on both sides, standing right over their cheekbones. A mouthin a perpetual smiling form can open 140 degrees to amass large amounts of spit or catch a lot of insects at once.
Their forelegs are palmed and can grip on the mossy and muddy parts of the swamps with ease, yet loses its efficiency when leaving.
They have very articulated hindlegs that they use to cover their bodies in spit when the days are dry or to hide their scent. Their form allows for propulsion, and is the thickest limb part they have.
Genetics and Reproduction
Dire Frogs reproduce easily and have a large amounts of eggs, though most will be eaten by predators befor they even hatch.
Growth Rate & Stages
The growth from tadpole to maturity is slower than that observed in smaller specimens of amphibians, but is still very fast. It take two month for an egg to turn into a tail-less Dire Frog.
Ecology and Habitats
They prefer wet environment and follow the seasons, hunting, wooing, reproducing, and hibernating,. Dire Frogs are hardly seen outside the humid Gorge of Deloth and the river beds within large forests Like Carsil.
