Master-Builder Horace Gien

A former slave of the Demon Empire, Horace chose to remain in the verdant steppes and work as a mason in the city-state of Mor Toith.
Captured as soldier during a war between the nascent Fortern and a tired Demon Empire, Horace was sold to many hands before ending up in the mines. The changes in slave politics that forced slave-masters to nourish and shelter slaves properly saved his life. When Horace, the prisonner of war, was released from servitude, he chose to keep up the work the Demons had taught him about stone buildings and architecture.
After a few years of loyal services leading groups of slave workers and artisans, Horace's success in constructing expansions for Mor Toith's fortress made waves. The governor rewarded him with his own company and Horace is in the middle of planning the construction for his very own masonry school.

Below the guise of an aging body, Horace is still quite strong and fast. Years as a slave worker under a proper master strengthened his body for ages to come (in the Empire, slaves are more valuable if they live long and strong).

Horace has grown fond of some of the Demon culture's aspects, but hasn't let go of his grudge for his enslavement. HIs small way of revenge is to create buildings and walls far better than any Demon engineer. By putting his Human name on a building for all of time, he proves himself as superior, and wins peacefully against the violent Imperials.
