Founding
The unification of several kingdoms into one, the Kingdom of Norland, which is taken as the founding of the Kingdom as a whole.
Several kingdoms and other states developed along the Greatflood river, and around its mouth in the years before this event. They squabbled and fought, but they also developed very similar cultural and political traits and finally decided to look for a way to bring peace to the area. Four great clan leaders met, then: Hredgard, Caedwald, Ethelfrith and Drago. They decided they could not afford to continue to vie for power, not when they were surrounded by the Carics of the west (led by Cistax), the barbarians from the north, various lords of the south and east. They decided to crown one king to rule them all. They would not choose one of themselves, but someone who linked them - they chose Holdred, a nephew of Caedwald, and married to the daughter of Hredgard. He was a fine warrior, a solid statesman who favored peace among these Lords, and had three sons. He assumed control, establishing his capital in Normouth, and they named the Kingdom Norland. This was blessed by the head of the church there, who was also made head of the entire religion, a primate of the religion, which was the official faith of the kingdom. They then established this as year 0 - year 1 wound be the year that followed, the first year of Holdred's reign. Since this was adopted by both the kingdom and the church, it became the common system for counting years afterward.
