Astryan (Peasantry)
The Astryans are the people of the country Astrya, the largest coastal country in Orcovia. In Astrya, however, the class divide between the peasantry and the nobility is so large that there is practically a cultural divide between the two classes of people.
Naming Traditions
Feminine names
Female names are typically short and simple, with usually two or three syllables at most, and a large ratio of consonants to vowels. Ex. Reaga, Elora, Zeane.
Family names
Surnames are typically the most complex part of the name in the peasantry class. While the Nobility have simple surnames and complex first names, the peasantry reverse this, with surnames typically having upwards of three syllables. Ex: Fomane, Marigo, Laurente.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Before the end of the Dark Times, and the start of the Common Era, the majority of the peasantry within Astrya spoke the language now known as Old Astryan, although most could not write or read it; since the beginning of the Common Era, however, all Astryans have spoken Orcovian Common, and litreracy among the peasantry has become more widespread. In the present day, it is expected that all adolescent and adult Astryans will be literate and fluent in Orcovian Common, with very few members of the peasantry class being able to even speak Old Astryan.
