Demons & Devils

Devils and Demons are two intertwined entities within the infernal hierarchy, with unique traits and capabilities that distinguish them from one another. All devils originate as demons, but through a dark and treacherous process, they can ascend to devilhood, gaining new powers and responsibilities.

Demons:

Summoning and Bonding

Demons can be summoned by mortals through arcane rituals. To bind a demon, the summoner must temporarily sacrifice part of their life force, calculated as ten times their current hit points (Cr*10 hp). Once bonded, the demon is compelled to follow all commands given by the master. However, demons are notoriously cunning and will always attempt to twist commands to their benefit.

Transformation to Devils

If a bonded demon kills their master and consumes their fresh blood, they absorb the master's soul and transform into a devil.

Devils:

Appearance and Grimoire

Upon becoming a devil, the entity gains the ability to assume the appearance of their previous master. Additionally, they acquire a grimoire that contains the names of every soul they possess, with the master’s name being the first. The grimoire is crucial to their devilish form; if it is lost or destroyed, the devil reverts back to a demon.

Soul Binding

Devils can bind one demon for each soul they own. They are compelled to uphold any bargain inscribed in their grimoire or on any page of it.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Both demons and devils emit an aura of fear and dread, causing unease and terror in those who gaze upon them. Their presence is often accompanied by a chilling wind or the flickering of nearby flames, and their voices carry a resonant, echoing timbre that can send shivers down the spine of even the bravest souls. Despite their terrifying appearances, both are adept at deception and manipulation, capable of presenting themselves in less threatening forms to achieve their malevolent goals.

Demons

Demons in their natural form are fearsome and grotesque beings, embodying the chaotic and malevolent essence of the infernal realms. Their appearance varies widely, reflecting their twisted and malevolent nature. Skin and Color: Demons often have tough, leathery skin that can range in color from deep crimson to sickly green or pitch black. Their skin is frequently covered in scars, spikes, or patches of coarse, bristling hair. Eyes: Their eyes glow with an unnatural light, typically red, yellow, or green, and they can pierce through the darkness with an unsettling intensity. Horns and Fangs: Many demons have large, curved horns protruding from their foreheads or temples, and their mouths are filled with rows of razor-sharp fangs designed for rending flesh. Limbs and Claws: Demons possess powerful limbs ending in claws or talons, capable of rending steel and flesh alike. Some have additional limbs, such as tentacles or barbed tails, that enhance their combat abilities. Wings: Some demons have large, bat-like wings, allowing them to soar through the air with ease. These wings are often tattered and torn, a testament to the countless battles they have fought. Odor: A sulfurous odor often accompanies demons, a pungent reminder of their infernal origin.

Devils

Devils, having transcended from their demon form through the consumption of their master’s soul, possess a more refined and terrifying appearance. They retain some of their demonic traits but have a more calculated and sinister aura.   Human-Like Form: Devils can assume a human-like appearance, often mimicking the form of their former master. In this guise, they appear unnervingly perfect, with flawless skin, piercing eyes, and an aura of dark charisma. Infernal Form: In their true form, devils retain a more sinister and majestic appearance compared to demons. Their skin may still be dark or deeply colored, but it appears smoother and more polished. Eyes: Their eyes glow with an intense, otherworldly light, often reflecting their cunning and intelligence. Unlike the wild and chaotic eyes of demons, a devil's gaze is calculating and hypnotic. Horns and Fangs: Devils have more refined and symmetrical horns, which are often polished and ornate. Their teeth, while sharp, are less monstrous and more akin to finely crafted daggers. Limbs and Claws: While retaining the strength and claws of their demon form, devils’ limbs are more proportionate and their movements more graceful. They exude a sense of power and control with every motion. Wings: Devils' wings are large and majestic, resembling those of a dark angel. They are fully functional and capable of swift, silent flight. Grimoire: Devils always carry their grimoire, a tome bound in dark leather and inscribed with infernal runes. This book contains the souls they own, and it is often seen chained to their person, symbolizing their power and the source of their devilish authority.

Genetics and Reproduction

Demons reproduce by tearing off a piece of their own body and performing a growth ritual. This severed piece will consume any available flesh, incorporating it to form a new body with potentially unique attributes such as wings, large teeth, or tentacles. The process continues until all the flesh is consumed, resulting in the birth of a new demon. The newly formed demon may not necessarily be loyal or even care for its creator.

Behaviour

Demons and devils alike are infamous for their malevolent creativity in interpreting commands to their advantage, often leading to unexpected and disastrous outcomes for their masters.   Devils, bound by the deals written in their grimoires, are relentless in ensuring these pacts are honored. They are master manipulators, weaving complex bargains to ensnare souls and expand their infernal influence.
