The Wilting Flower

In the distant past, many believed meteor showers were tears from the Moon. The Moon had many lovers, families, and friends. Their tears flowed for each who would die or go somewhere far away.
Love was under the domain of moonlight, every type of consenting love: no corruption, no obsession, and no evil, just the purest form. It would be common for families to have carvings of the Moon on their front doors, and partners to have medallions or piercings with matching Moons to mark their attachment. Silver jewelry was used to signify marriage for partners. Communities would throw parties and celebrations every month for the full Moon, to see its beauty and to show appreciation for each other. The Sun was once thought to be one of the Moon's lovers. There was a belief that every eclipse was the Sun and Moon visiting each other. Some would watch this spectacle, others were embarrassed and gave them privacy.
During one solar eclipse, before the modern calendar, something terrible happened. The Sun was violent, flames licked across the sky. When the Moon met the sun, there was silence. It took 8 minutes to feel the quake across the planet and to see the Moon was no longer whole. The Sun had killed the Moon. Pieces of the Moon fell to Ori for many years, they still do now.
Every meteor shower was the tears of a corpse, betrayed by their lover.
Love is a cycle, when it dies or is lost, it returns in a different form. When the grief of an undead god returned to the world, the being that was once its loved came into the world. The hue of moonlight returned, splintered.
